Hi from new poster living in southern England.

I have to say that I have had a dream to own a Custom Shop Strat since I started playing (about 1976 :? )

Well, on Saturday the dream became reality as my wonderful Mrs helped me find the cash for a new 1960 NOS in vintage white. I have played and owned many Strats (Fender and others) over the years, but this is in a league of its own. (as you people well know).

I tried the American Standard Stratocaster whilst I was in the shop and it was good, but came nowhere near in terms of looks, sound and playability. I also tried the De Luxe but I didn't find it comfortable. Maybe the fretboard radius is flatter? I also played the CS Heavy Relic Fenders. They sound and look fantastic it has to be said, but I preferred the '60 NOS. I dunno - it seems like if you bought a guitar in say '57 and played it every day ( ), it might get to look like the Heavy Relic, but the thing wouldn't be "your" guitar - not personal enough maybe. I have a Fernandes strat from the late 80's and I remember every dink and scratch and how it got there. (Fantastic guitar, by the way - forget the past :) ).

So, I will put some nicer pic's up as soon as possible. This guitar is my dream. There are better, more expensive and more unique guitars than mine talked about on this forum, but this one is mine and I love it already.

Cheers Fender.

Ooh nice!

Can I ask, whereabouts did you buy it? I recently got my 2011 Custom Deluxe from Peach Guitars in Essex - excellent service from guys who really seem to care about the guitars they sell. I was impressed!

Hi.

I bough it at GAK in Brighton. They have a huge stock of guitars and a whole roomful of Fenders. There is a specific area for Custom Shop guitars and I would estimate there were about 20 CS models in stock. Their website carries details and pictures of most guitars in stock but you should call before going for a specific guitar - while I was in the shop, a guy turned up who had travelled from Somerset to buy a guitar and it had been sold!!! (About 400 miles wasted journey). The salesman, Mark was very helpful and knowledgable and the price was negotiable, so I got a better deal than I expected.

My wife is a photographer, so we will have to wait for more pics - but when they come, they will be good pics.

Cheers.

Three years on.

Frets seem to have developed some wear and there is some choking of the top E around frets 12-14.

I use this guitar live all the time - that's around 75 gigs a year and I do tend to sweat so maybe that's not helping the fret problem.

The colour is starting to wear through in a nice, natural way in some places, giving the guitar a used look.

I love this guitar and haven't changed it a bit apart from using sets of 10's strings instead of the manufacturers 9's. It's had a bit of scarring through being knocked over a couple of times :? , but nothing too bad. It's a 'players' guitar rather than a museum-piece and I'm proud of it.

Over and out.

Cheers guys.

Fat 50's poles are not flat but staggered.
