Hi everyone,

I am building a look-a-like for a customer of mine and am wondering if anyone has advice on a color to match this guitar.

I have a swamp ash body all sealed and ready for color

Any suggestions?

Start by buying a rosewood body and neck.

If you can't do that then I would find someone who knows wood and staining. Good luck and show us some pictures when it's finished.

It might have been better though to stain the body and then fill with a tinted filler before you sealed it.

 , this one belongs to me and is not for sale.
As said you have to carve a piece of mahogany, cut it in two parts and insert a thin layer of maple in-between. You won't get close to that direction with a swamp ash body.

Dammit. The board choked again while replying. What gives with the SQL errors today?

I typed up the whole bookmatched "rosewood" sandwiching maple too but the post got lost. I thought though it was understood and he was only looking for a color/stain that looks like it. I assume also that everyone knows though intended for Hendrix, he never actually got it.

Thanks guys....well, I should clarify we aren't going for an exact copy...Just a color in a dark/reddish brown. I know the swamp won't absorb as much. I was hunting around askin woodworkers and guitar builders to see any stains they would recommend to have that deep pigment. I would prefer to hand rub it in, and I am putting a Nitro finish afterward.
