I have my eye on a used '62 Strat. It's advertised as Masterbuilt but I believe the neck is the only part that qualifies. It's a Jason Davis signed neck. The rest is a '60 NOS strat. It's of course not priced like a Masterbuilt strat either. I'm sure the neck is amazing but I'm a little worried about plopping major money on a high end partscaster. That said, I just don't see many used rosewood masterbuilt strats for sale. I currently have a Custom Shop '60 from Wildwood that I love. I've never seen a masterbuilt in person but they do seem within reach of a custom shop regular strat in the used market. Otherwise I like this guitar. I'm not a relic freak but I can sometimes psyche myself out of picking up new expensive guitars so maybe the relic part will cure me of that worry.

There is also a triple gold '56 for sale locally for $2800 but of course maple neck and gold hardware, neither of which are my favorites. It is though the complete masterbuilt guitar. Also Jason Davis.

It's a partscaster! Plain and simple. No way is it a "Masterbuilt" guitar! The seller states that he was the one who put it all together, but that was after describing it as a Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt, which it isn't!

Even I could trawl ebay and find enough parted out CS parts to put together a really nice guitar, but I would never try to sell it on as a "Masterbuilt." That's dishonest.

It is only worth the value of its secondhand parts, like all partscasters!

That's what I thought although the seller at least describes it in detail so perhaps only the title is misleading. I suppose it's possible the parts may be worth in that neighborhood. Granted it doesn't have Masterbuilt pickups which seem to be a non-minor part of a Masterbuilt package.

What is a Masterbuilt Neck worth anyway ? I wasn't aware you could purchase them separately.

You can't. Fender sells whole guitars, not parts. You can only have a Masterbuilt and rip it apart.

Cheers

That eBay seller drives me crazy... can't call a guitar Masterbuilt if it's a parts guitar assembled by some guy....

You can inform eBay. If the description of the goods is not correct, it's basically for the fraud department.

Cheers
