Is this possible, or will it cause actual problems, not just upsetting people who think it's a silly idea.
I like the short scale neck you see, and have a Strat body waiting to be neck and loaded so I want the best of both guitars - my faves - so was wondering if anybody had done it before and if it actually worked.

Cheers.

You can do it, (and, we have) but you have to move the bridge back.

Cool cool.

Yeah i'm not sure about the bridge yet cause it's a full custom job i'm making with a hard tail.

But thanks for the tip.

Maybe you want also to install three Jaguar pickups and their corresponding lead/rhythm slide switches. :)

... and replace the Strat trem with a floating Jag vibrato w/ Trem-lock button.

In that case, you should perform some modifications to the pickguard and the tremolo cavity.

Maybe maybe, it's just that i've already got the pickups and i'm pretty certain of the switching set-up i'm going to use. And i've really gone off tremolos recently so it'll be a hard tail beacuse i just don't need any whammying that can't be done on the neck.

But thanks for the suggestion, it did cross my mind because i have a Jag.

Alain is quite right, Strat necks had a 25.5"-scale length while the Jaguar ones employ a shorter 24"-scale which adds to the more percussive character of the Jaguar – the shorter scale length and the “normal” sized single coil pickups will result in a clankier, sharper sound.

This is also the reason why Jaguars can be equipped with stronger string gauges than you usually would use on your “normal” scale guitar.

Yeah i know that's part of the reason why i was going for the short neck, aswell as i prefer them. I'm putting in humbuckers too and i use heavy strings. But i can move the bridge too because i'm doing a hardtail so i can just sort it out. Or go for the short scale and have a unique sounding strat.

This all depends on being able to get hold of a Jag neck mind, not easy for a student with few monies.

Thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming.

I use 12-52 on some Strats for vintage instrumental music

This modification has to be done by a knowledgeable luthier. Because you're changing the scale, the issue here is string harmonics and the location of the nodes. Now you have to ask your self if the juice is worth the squeeze or would it make more sense to have the Custom Shop build you a 24.75 scale Stratocaster.

I think the Custom Shop can make a Strat with a fanned Novax neck.

Yeah it's not going to be easy, the main isuue being getting hold of a Jag neck.
Plus the neck heel isn't big enough for a 22 fret neck unless the fretboard overlaps, so i'd have to go for 21 fret Strat scale which is a disappointment.

Ah well, i'll have the chance to do it properly one day, but for now i'll just settle for the cheaper, easier option and go for the standard scale.

Thanks for the tips.

In that case, just buy a Jag and be done with it...
