I just picked up a '59 Relic P-Bass.
It was made in 2009 but is brand new....the dealer had it..
I know it is a Relic but the bridge saddle screws are so corroded that that they won't even turn. Is this normal for CS Relic's?
Thanks in advance for responding...

It happens regularly
Just a few drops of penetrating oil will do.

Thanks for the tip....I tried that, even took a saddle off and soaked it.....still won't turn...took a coated pliers and tried to turn it from the bottom to no avail...
I know these things are relic'd but they should still turn...

As far as providing the actual build date? Well, if the OP ever returns, maybe he will clear that up. In any case, what the OP has experienced is no different than buying a new car that has been sitting on the dealer's lot for some time and which has accumulated some scratches or dents. It is the dealer's responsibility to fix those, not the manufacturer. Yes, the manufacturer may reimburse the dealer but that is irrelevant to the buyer. You definitely have no right to demand that the manufacturer replace the entire car after you take delivery as the OP has demanded of Fender.

When the hardware is reliced, it is put into an glass enclosure of some kind, and sits in the vapors of an acid. Even if it is scrupulously cleaned, you can't leave it in an enclosed space or it will continue to "relic". I can't put treated screws or parts into a drawer or they will continue to rust. This could be a factor in what happened, maybe helped along by humidity.

And yet Fender builds and sells thousands (?) of reliced guitars every year which end up hanging on some Guitar Center's wall or in a case in someone's home and only one person writes into a forum to complain?

Different relics have varying degrees of aging on the bridge. Some are just tarnished or discolored, while others have major rust. I have a relic Strat with a very rusty bridge; use of the trem bar always takes strings 4, 5, and 6 flat.

So .... Have you demanded that Fender replace the bridge or the entire guitar like the OP has? Did your guitar sit for years in the back of a dealer in an unopened box before you bought it? Did you complain to the dealer if there was a problem when you took delivery? Or did you just figure out how to deal with it on your own and not blame everyone else?

Bill,

No, it's a great guitar. I just work around it with maintenance.

My point was that, of the large population of relics, the subset where the bridge is really rusted is a smaller number. Of those, perhaps a smaller subset tends to have any issues.
