Do you remember how much the 50's strats were going for back in 72? Probably double what your 70 was, still would have been a nice investment :)

I can't recall for sure but I seriously believe they were less. They were just "used guitars". No vintage market at that time. At least in Spokane there wasn't.

I just read in Clapton's book, and I've read other places where he stated this before, that when he was in Nashville in '69 0r '70 he bought 6 vintage Strats for $100 each, gave three away to friends and built "Blackie" with parts from the remaining three. That was only two years before I bought mine.

Hey at that time it would have been just dumb luck to grab one of those pre-cbs guitars, let alone two or three and then wait 10 years until they were worth something. I was just a kid and I'm sure the money I spent on that Strat tapped me out.

I felt pretty happy with the '70 Strat, though. Woodstock was still pretty big at the time and everyone wanted a white Strat because of Jimi. The two to three hundred I spent on my Strat was a ton of money to me. I had to borrow an amp (it was a lovely little Supro 20 watter) until I could afford the used Super Reverb I bought a year later (a Blackface '65-I think I payed $300 for it).

I'm going to check out what five or six hundred dollars is worth now with inflation.

I'll be right back!

$3207.66!!!

Yep. That's about what a used CS Strat and a used Super Reverb Reissue would cost today.

urby - not 100% sure but in '99 yours may have been finished with a poly undercoat/nitro top like the AVRI series...all my "NOS" models from 2004 and 2006 (dakota red and olympic white [now yellowed into v white) have checked, faded, light arm wear, etc...they have thin skin lacquer...i also live in colder weather here...spring has still not arrived in MA...

Dear friends
i think its best to understand both the custom shop quality and an honest great custom shop dealer (in UK actually - John Priest from Peach Guitars), by providing my last mail to him after my guitar arrived to Greece just ...today

Dear John
the nocaster NOS arrived today ...so after the reduced price...a very kind move from u
a fast shipping is a totally gift too
opened the case, perfect smell, and visuals
rings n zings like a bell
huge tinted neck the way i like it
just gave her a go with my 15 watt handwired mark sampson s STAR (its a rare gain star 15 model) - imagine a boutique vox on steroids, with a bite of reverb
total warm n twang heaven...everything is like u said EXACTLY
pressing my ts 808....cant describe the tone
amazing
a keeper for sure

cant say a think
than a big THANK U to all u guys at Peach guitars and especially u John

sincerely yours
Dimitris

PHOTOS REALLY SOON
