I've got a yellow, (with pearloid pick guard) strat. Its MIM. .....Now for the wierd shizzle........With guitar laying on its back and strings cut off, as I lift the pick guard off of the guitar I notice a circuit board to the right of the cavities for the pickups factory routed into the body. As I rotate the pick guard and lay it face down on the guitar, I notice what appears to be a pickup with most of the poles taken out kind of positioned along side of the vol. and tone knob.....

WHY, who would have done that,..It just boggles my mind!!

I also have:

1. Gibson Melody Maker (1959-60)
2. Music Man knock-off
3. B.C. Rich $@!&* 10-string
4. B.C. Rich strat style body, Lita Ford
5. Aria Pro double cut-away, hollow body
6. B.C. Rich Warlock with retro-fitted neck from mocking bird
7. Kramer strat style Baretta
8. Kramer Rhodes style V
9. MIM strat with spin art paint job
10. MIM strat mentioned above
11. USA strat Teal American series
12. USA strat WHITE '68 VOO DOO
13. $@! Squire
14. Fender P-bass
15. Ibanez S-series 2170 Ebony Swirl
16. Ibanez Destroyer
and last but not least,....
17. Washburn acoustic

I do all my own work on all these guitars with all their individual wiring charactoristics, and still, I have not come across a pickup or what appears to be a coil in amoungst the obvious wiring. If anyone knows where I could find some answers I'd be very greatful!!! :(

Sounds like a Roland synth pickup to me, is this the right positioning?

If it is--and it works--you have increased tonal possibilities.
Go for it!

No dude, I apprieciate the response, but its INSIDE the wiring comp. If you look at the pic you sent , mine does not have a roland synth, you can't see the pickup unless you take the pick guard OFF of the guitar!!

I told you it was wierd maybe I should have put " REAL F*&^ING" in front of that!!!

Thanx anyway...............................................................................

That extra coil is used to make all of your pickups into humbuckers, no hum! Is there a battery somewhere? The circuit board could be for some kind of active electronics, like a pre-amp or booster. Are there extra controls or push-pull switches on the pots?

Did you buy it used? You said it look like the factory routed it; I guess you don't really know what model it is? A Clapton?

:D DING, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET THAT MAN A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thannks brother of the faith, wielder of the six-string axe, ect., ect.,,,,

I did a LOT of research on this and you are EXACTLLY CORRECT, (unlike my spelling)!!

I found out indeed the superfluous pickup is acting as the opposing coil for each of the single coils to achieve a generic "noiseless" effect in conjunction with the on board pre-amp!!

The more I play this thing the more I love it!!

I just dropped 1300 on a new Ibanez with the "ZR Tremolo", let me just say its the most technically advanced piece of musical artillery I've aquired, I absolutely love it.

However, since I got this strat, tore it down, looked inside, put it back together, and tuned it,.....I find myself noodling and going over my guitar lines with IT more than any of the others!!

AGAIN..........THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT!!!!!

If you want to see pictures of some of my other guitars go to:
