I wonder how many of these guitars were sold. Does anyone here have one?

I see the historical significance of the original prototype as a museum piece for display purposes but I don't see why anyone would want to own a replica of it to be used as a working instrument. I read that some of the original features and specs have been corrected to make it more playable, and cosmetically it's been dressed up a bit to make it more presentable, but with these changes it's more of a tribute than a replica. If you take a prototype Telecaster, refine and polish the primitive design elements and correct all of the mistakes, you'd end up with a 1950 Broadcaster! :D

This guitar is called the "Snake Head". Original Snake Head Teles were all made in 1949.

The Snake Head became the basis for the Esquire and the Broadcaster which officially debuted in 1950.

The Broadcaster name was shortlived because Gretsch claimed the name itself infringed upon its Broadkaster drums trademark. In the interim, before Fender had come up with an alternate name and printed appropriately revised headstock decals, factory workers simply snipped the "Broadcaster" name from its existing stock of decals, so guitars with these decals are identified simply as "Fender" without any model name. These guitars were better known as "Nocasters".

By the summer of 1951 the guitar was officially renamed as the Telecaster and has been known as such ever since.
