Different strokes, Rob. I was up close and personal to one of those EC Tributes at the NYC auction preview and, sorry to say, despite the karma and charisma, it didn't rock my world. However, that T-Mobile Stratocaster sure did.

Thanks Robert, yeah very lucky guy, the wait paid off and yes I know I rubbed it in but every time I play that guitar it astonishes me more, of all my strats, I know I have to go back to Balckie when I want to get that tone; no other strat can get it for me.

On another side note, I will be getting a collectors grade Hedrix Tribute Strat (you know the lefty strung righty) it's got all the case candy and the guitar is near mint; not bad for a 14 year old guitar hey?; I was hoping for it to get to me today but with customs and whatnot I don't think I will see it until Monday; so a lot of good things to look forward too, a lot of strats; I use to be such a Les Paul Freak; I don't know what happend.

PS: Alain I knew you were messing with me, but I did fall for that one... ja ja!;

Tastes differ, eh? Haven't seen that one up close, so I can't say if it would be a winner for me. The 275 do differ in subtle ways, some of them just have a bit more mojo than others.

You're welcome, man. That Hendrix guitar is bound to be a bit of a challenge to play...

I'm sure it will be a challenge to play but it's also something different sound wise and look wise and a nice change of pace.
Yeah no the Black 1 I got was fairly priced I guess; around the 2k area so... I think it's good considering most of them were blown up in price after they came up. Hopefully I can get it home soon; I played one of the artist sunburst models yesterday and the pickups blew me away; the guy selling it; I asked him that if he could set it up properly I would buy it but after 2 hours of wiggling around with it; he couldn't get it together and he wasn't very attentive and couldn't care less if I buy it; so I said well I already will be getting the black one so I don't need to forcefully buy something from someone that doesn't even give you the time of day; so I left.
I think customer attention is important; which some vendors seem forget.
Anyway; have a nice Sunday guys!
M.

Thought's appreciated, mate but, in future, remember you'llhave to do it via PM one on one because the bylaws forbid outright sales pitching on the forum.

Stipe,

Since you have both one of the 83 and one of the 500, could you do a quick line-up between both guitars? I'm curious how they compare in sound, neck shape, weight, overall feel....

Thank you Doc, will do as soon as I receive my Blck1 500 which at this point is still a couple of weeks away from delivery since I live in Mexico but I will do an A/B test as soon as I get it.
I can tell you this though; the other day I tested a production line Stevie Ray Vaughan vs a SB Mayer and the Mayer was punchier, with much more attack but without being harsh; those big dippers are really amazing pickups. My take is that the 83 will be much more subtle and delicate sounding (as a high end guitar should be) being very gentle went you want or take your head off when crancking it up but without loosing the bottom end and mid range.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mr. John Cruz and Mr. Todd Krause; I believe they really crank it up a notch when it comes to quality guitars. I have not yet played the 83, but I can tell you from the looks, feel, relic, apperance, attention to detail and finish that its an amazing guitar; one of my favorite instruments hands down.

Talk to you soon Doc. Be well.

Cheers!

I suppose your findings support what a 'scooped midrange' is all about....accentuated highs and lows. Of course, the bone of contention throughout the entire '83' project seemed to be surrounding the pickups. If the Tribute guitar is all that other owners say it is, I would expect it's voicing to be just what would be expected of the Mayer guitar. Remember, ME's point that artist series guitars are 'snapshot' instruments. Tribute series are intended to be replicas in every detail. Certainly can't complain about my Gilmour in that respect, NOS version notwithstanding.

Waiting on your observations with interest.

Doc
