Hi,

I just acquired a fantastic Paul Waller Masterbuilt '58 Strat, and I have a question about serial #'s...

Does anyone know why some Masterbuilt Fenders follow a standard series of numbers, say, R5XXX as opposed to others? My Strat has a PW2XX serial, which I'm assuming stands for Paul Waller + the number, but I'm wondering why I see other instruments made by him that don't follow that sequence.

Cheers,

BT

I'm thinking the Rxxxx might be "team built"

OK. I may be wrong. I seem to remember seeing a Mark Knopfler Strat build by Yuriy Shishkov that had a "R" serial number. So, maybe the "R" is for a "reissue" of sorts. Whereas a "one off" master built might carry the builder's initials.

I guess Mike might be only one that can give us a useful answer to this one.

Cheers, Mike, thanks -

Below is a pic - the decal on the back of the headstock is the typical Fender custom shop logo but w/ Paul Waller's signature, and Paul also signed the cert.

The serial # is PW214 and I believe this is a Strat that he brought to the 2010 Roadshow at Wildwood guitars, and it's a '58 RI. Don't know if it was on the official Roadshow list or not.

Mike, this is what I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Masterbuilt- ... 35b08f6be7

I was just wondering which serial # sequences are used and why.
