Hey guys... I am setting my trem up with five springs, and was wondering how much space i should put between the trem claw and the back of the body. For you that have a strat thats pro setup with 5 springs... can you let me know?

I and my Auth Fender Tech prefer flush to body on all my Strat set-ups and use 5-springs, except my Beck Strat, raised high, so when I pull trem bar up, bridge is flush and 1-full note up in pitch - use 3-springs on that one.

To each their own- no wrong way, other than maybe not having "pro" tech set your guitars up.

That distance depends on how the guitar is setup and personal preference.

Depends of your choice of decked or floating bridge setup. For decked setup screw it tight as much as nothing is moving (bend one string and pluck the notes on strings above and below to see if you detune them), which is not to much to begin if you are using those five silver high tension springs. I like to leave them loose as possible due to the twangy/rattly sound springs give when vibrating after some motivated strumming.

For floating setup there was a really informative thread with the links to videos how to setup with no tuning issues after the rough trem action.

Your choice of string gauge, brand, tension will also affect where your trem claw should be. Follow the basic set-up guide link that znagle22 provided and you should be good to go.

thanks everyone... I set my strat up and it plays great!!!
I took the neck off and trem off, sanded the laquer on the bottom of the neck pocket and neck joint and took the sticker off inside the joint, screwed the trem on where the two point trem just touched the trem plate. Oh, and i took the block off of the trem and sanded the layer in between a tiny bit (ala eric johnson).
I love MY strat! It plays as good if not better than some customs in my opinion. But I could be biased haha
