Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Blacktop Jaguar, the silver one. I really don’t care for the chrome cavity cover that is on the guitar. So I was thinking of having a piece made to replace it.
But my concern is that that chrome cover has something to do with the grounding of the guitar. I’m new at understanding how a guitar is wired, but when I took the cover off there was no ground wire attached to the input jack. There was only a white wire that was coming from the volume pot. So i’m afraid i’m wasting my time having a special piece made to replace the chrome piece that came on the guitar. So the question is, does the chrome cavity cover have anything to do with grounding the Blacktop Jaguar HH?
Thanks in advance.

I've not looked under the plate of that model, but it is quite possible that the metal plate is used to ground the components attached to it. If you used a plate that is non-coductive, you would need to run a separate ground wire.

If you have a piece made to replace it and use either copper or alluminum shielding foil tape on the underside it should suffice to properly ground it as long as the jack makes conctact with it. If there is no grounding wire going to it then its likely grounded by the pots attached to it, which must also make contact with the foil.
