Hi forum, I'm no expert with Fender Strats, so I need some advice on how to authenticate an Instrument.

It's a Strat "Blackie" With the Yuri Shizkov Custom Motif on the back of the headstock and the Clapton signiture and "Blackie" on the front.

The Serial Number is on the plate on the back of the body - 120006

I don't know if it makes any difference, but it has Wilkinson pickups.

I'm confused because the body is worn, like a Blackie, but the headstock, although the right style, isn't cigarette burned, which I have been told was on all Blackies?

Any help would be appriciated!

Must be frustrating to see your work so poorly 'copied'. I'm sure Yuriy doesn't appreciate his signature plastered on that thing.

It used to make me sick, but now I expect it to be honest. It is human nature really. people come on here and ask for specs on BLK1's, Blackie, Gilmours, Hendrix, etc., so they can make better copies, neck shapes, pickup readings, etc. What goes through somebody's mind when they are at their computer photoshopping Greg Fessler's personal signature? Amazing.

I'm Swiss. And let me tell you that even Rolex can't tell a fake from real ... they have to open the watch and check inside before they know for sure. Isn't that freaky? I guess that at least 25% of Rolexes sold in the internet are fake.

So thanks for your kind support in spotting fake Fenders.

Cheers

David

I agree, this guitar is fake.

A Clapton model would have a single-layer 8-hole pickguard and a 22-fret neck. Also, the Wilkinson pickups are not stock and the onboard active circuit seems to have been removed.

Well, here's the V6 Icon you're talking about.

Image

It's often nicknamed as the "V6 Icon Distressed Boulevard Black" supposedly because Eric Clapton used Blackie to record his 461 Ocean Boulevard album in 1974.

Image

Looks like an all-parts guitar to me: a Fender-licensed neck mounted into a V6 body. Someone has put a Custom Shop decal and Yuriy's signature on the back of the headstock.

PS: the V6 Icon has 22 frets.
