I saw the Eric Johnson signatures only as general production models, but never imagined to find a Custom Shop version of these beauties.

Both guitars were masterbuilt by Greg Fessler.

Love the staggered tuners on my EJ and one of my CS Relic Strats. Surprised this EJ CS has holes in back of body for back plate.

This black Masterbuilt maple-neck EJ Custom has the back plate factory-installed.

Surprised, as EJ production strats don't come with back cover and or holes drilled to add one- at least my Maple neck doesn't.

Still confused on why CS/MB artist (EJ, Mayer, Knopfler, etc) guitars are not openly marketed in U.S., as they are wiith Beck, Clapton, etc models. It was my impression from posts here and lack of advertising the availability, that one couldn't order a EJ or Mayer CS, no less change spec on a JM to Nitro finish. Would have thought Wildwood Guitars in CO would have ordered some of these bad boys, as they carry a plethora of CS EC units.

I think the back plate and the drilled mounting holes are available only on the Custom Shop version of the EJ signature series guitars.

Pros: Fender can eventually offer the regular Artist models with these features as an upgrade option.

Cons: these upgrade "extras" could further increase the cost.

I think I like the neck binding.

Here's something I've been wondering about. They claim the EJ rosewood models are based on a '65 design, but why the spaghetti logo instead of a period correct transistion logo?

Those guitars look amazing.
