Hello all,
I have a problem with my 2010 Deluxe strat.
Over the past week or so it has been getting ear bleedingly bright. Even the mrs has noticed and commented on it. If i play a Bm at the 7th fret it makes me wince its so bad. Obviously getting worse the further up the fret board i go.
Nothing has been altered on the guitar except new strings yesterday to try and cure it (same gauge as original).
I normally play with tone on 7, vol on 7 to give me a bit of play either side. All pots are working but 10 on the volume is a no go as it sound so thin it could break glass. I now have resorted to my TS9 as a volume boost instead of the guitar vol to drive the amp a bit. The problem is on all pick ups. 69s neck, middle, Tex special bridge. I know the 69s are a bright pick up but i know how to get my sound from them, which tends to be more mellow and warm sounding and loved how touch responsive they were.
My amp is a Laney vc15 which is a very rich, warm sounding amp. I had a rattle when play single string g notes from the amp, but this seems to have gone. And my other guitar sound ok through it, but not discounting the amp as the problem.

Im gutted to be honest because this is not the guitar i tried and played on several occassions before i handed over the money. I ve had it for a few months now and was loving every minute of it till this problem.
Help me please guys and girls. Any ideas?

Maybe you have tinnitus.
Should check with a Doc

I'm not an expert, and perhaps you should take the guitar to a qualified tech, but since this happens on every pup position, and it isn't amp related, it might be possible that the capacitor in the guitar's wiring circuit is breaking down. Now I've never heard of that happen, but it may be worthy of a check if nothing else shows up!

It is due a check up and set up. been played alot in the four months or so since i got it so should all be well bedded in by now.
Am going to re string it later with the original brand strings that it came to see if it improves.
The set i put on the other day are EBs and maybe not suited to it.

My first thought was the different strings you put on might be brighter and just harsher-sounding to you, but your initial post reads like maybe you had the problem before the string change?

If it's a 2010 and you bought it from an authorized Fender dealer, I would think it's probably still under warranty. If you bought it from a dealer then I'd just take it in and have them check under the hood for you. As one post indicated, it's probably about time for a check-up on it anyway.

Good luck.

C
