Do you clean the body of your Relic guitars as you would do with a NOS guitar, using polish, pampering them ?

I never clean them; that's one of the good sides of a Relic.
It saves polish and they can be handled casually.

I don't have a relic, but owned a Road Worn 60's Strat (and will again soon hopefully) and I used to clean that a little when I changed strings (so once a month) - I agree that it helps with the illusion of age.

I would if I knew what to use to do it... sadly brands like Planet Waves don't even bother telling you if their products can be used this way.

my Relic has one third of the paint missing, that's a lot of bare wood.

maybe I'll just end up ordering René Martinez's polish as it's clearly stated in the description it can be used on wood.

I was just thinking of "regular" reliced guitars, not those with large surfaces of bare wood

I would say that the best thing to use when cleaning a relic'd guitar would be 80 grit sandpaper.

I never clean my relic guitars, but one time I posted on the forum that the maple fingerboard lacquer wear on my cunnetto mary kay appeared as if it was painted on and not as authentic looking as the newer relics. Someone said it could not be a cunnetto as he had never seen any painted wear on the fingerboards before. Well after having the guitar for quite a few years I decided to clean the fingerboard and guess what, the paint was dirt and came off with a good clean. Oops.
