I'm about to buy a Fender custom shop Stratocaster. Since these instruments are expensive i want as much information about the instrument as possible.

i TOTALLY fell in love with this one. A bit sudden since i didn't plan on spending almost 3.000 euro on a guitar. I couldn't find this one on the custom shop website but would love some extra info and background story about it.

The Images:

The specs i found (not sure if they're correct so please let me know if they are):

Fender Custom Shop 1964 Stratocaster Relic Black - Lipstick

Custom Shop - Limited Edition
Body: Selected alder
Neck: Maple, Medium C Shape
Fingerboard: Rosewood
21 frets
3 Custom Vintage Relic Duncan - Lipstick pickups
Master Volume, Tone1, Tone 2,
5-way Switch
Scale Length: 25.5 "(648 mm)
Pickguard: 3-ply
Nickel / Chrome Hardware
including original Fender case and certificate

I have some additional questions though:

1. Can anyone tell me what size frets are used for this guitar?
2. Can anyone tell me more about the pickups. Although they look like lipsticks, they don't sound like lipsticks, so they seem different in some way but i would love some extra information about these
3. It says they're a limited edition, what does this mean in this case? are there only a few built, and if so how many?
4. What kind of rosewood is used for this guitar?
5. is there addition information like the origional catalog containing this guitar or like a PDF?

This thing will be more expensive than my excuse for a car but i literally haven't been able to sleep since playing it.

most likely was a run for a european dealer, I know Coda and other shops over there get exclusive custom spec runs done for their shops often.

what's the serial #, and what store are you purchasing it from?

It is indeed a european exclusive but not dealer exclusive, she was selected in Dusseldorf by the dealer who i want to purchase it from. Sadly don't have the serial, was hoping you guys could tell me more without.

It is hard to say from pictures, but it seems to be 6105, which is presumably what CS puts on most of the guitars. CS Clapton have vintage frets and they are way lower/smaller than those on the pictures and deluxe line have medium jumbos that are wider than the ones on the pictures.

2. I read on the net in the past that those lipstics are overwound and mid rangey

3. Go to Ask Mike Eldred and try to find out from him.

4. Most likely dark Indian rosewood.

5. No idea, but again ME might be a man to ask.

I am not an expert on this, but just basing my opinions on the common specs CS is/was using on the pre-configured guitars in the past couple of years. If it plays like a dream and you purchase it, I am sure Fender will provide you some details on it.

You can do a lot worse like spending $80.000 on a new Mercedes and watch it fall apart in 7-8 years together with the %100 loss. This thing has possibility to be a collective piece and outlive you. Don't worry about it if it will not cause you and your family to loose a food and the roof over your head.

The dealer should be able to answer all of those questions.

I bought one last summer from Thomann, an on-line european dealer, and I love it.

They still have one to sell, and here are the details :

1) 6105 Dunlop
2) probably Seymour Duncan Lipstick Tube for Strat SLS-1 models
3) dunno
4) c-shape with round laminated dark indian rosewood fretboard
5) dunno

Hope this helps.
