I bought this Strat a few months ago from a reputable dealer in Denmark Street, London. It didn't have a COA and was sold to me as a Custom Shop 55 reissue Strat. I would be grateful if you knowledgable people would take a look and see what you think. Thanks in advance, Stephen.[img]ImageImage[img][/img]ImageImageImageImageImage[/img]

Welcome :)
"a reputable dealer in Denmark Street"...

I suggest you contact the Fender Consumer Relations Dept giving them also the serial number :

Thanks for the reply Alain. Purchased from a Fender Dealer. What do you think might be wrong with it?

You've just received some extremely wise and expert counsel...very diplomatically handled. Proceed as suggested.
Let us know what you find out.l

Just heard back from Fender. The serial number comes up as a 2003 56 Strat Relic in Dakota Red. The neck is dated September 1995. I think that the neck is from a 54 NOS strat and i can't see any evidence of a re-finish on the body.

So it's either a partcaster or just the neckplate has been changed. Here's a link to a Custom Shop 54 NOS Strat in Shoreline Gold which looks very much like my guitar.

Any thoughts?

It really depends on whether you love the guitar for what it is, possibly a partscaster, and more to the point, that you paid a partscaster price to the "reputable" dealer in Denmark Street.

If you paid a Custom Shop price, expecting it to be a Custom Shop guitar, I think you would be justified in returning the guitar to them and demanding your money back!

I'm pretty sure the neck is Custom Shop, it really is beautiful. The guitar is really great, lovely sound. Its definitely a keeper. I'd just like to know about the body. The only identifying mark is the number 400 stamped on the inside.

I tried Fender with the serial number for my 2000 fiesta red 59 heavy relic relic strat, they came back with a 2005 69 white relic, their records may not be that accurate.

Does it have a custom shop logo on the back of the head stock?

paint under the tremelo springs looks inconsistent with custom shop quality
