I remember going to Roy Buchanan in the 70,s in Pgh. He was one on the reasons I picked up a guitar. The end of his life was tragic. Drugs and Booze cuts down way to many from all walks of life.

Ditto... as was Danny Gatton's suicide leaving a then 16yo daughter. People went to see him just to cop his stuff. These guys were awsome, but for some unknown reason, the big brass ring always alluded them, not withstanding their loyal followings. My long time friend, guitarist and fellow band mate revealed recently that he never heard of Danny. I told him I'd bring a CD to Florida with me which I have. Tuesday I expect a revelation to befall my old friend.

His strat really looks chewed up compared to the cs masterbuilt! Which neck did they replicate on the tribute? The original which was refret to death or the replacement? Does the production srv strat have the same neck as either the original or replacement?

In that the guitar taken from the vault after his death was the one copied, I suspect the replacement neck in that the original is said to have been destroyed by a falling stage light. As for the artist series guitar, it's likely close but no.

I wish I never heard of Danny Gatton. Makes me feel like I wasted my life thus far playing guitar when I compare my ability to his.

When Jon Fuentes raved about the fact that his girlfriend had given him the Crossroad 2010 DVD for Christmas, I replied that he'd likely feel the same way as you in that regard, once he'd been done with Sonny Landreth.

im sure alain can confirm, but my understanding was the original neck was put back on by rene and given back to jimmy - so, the tribute should have that original '62 neck replicated.

i think one of the replacement necks was actually the one destroyed by the rigging - though i dont remember if that was the 'Red' replacement neck or a different replacement neck.

a very iconic guitar either way!

For clarification, videos of SRV playing #1 show either a plain black scratchplate or one with luminescent
block letters. I don't every recall seeing the logo script above on his stage guitar. Only it being made part of the Artist Series Stratocaster, and then finding it's way on to the Tribute. Does that sound correct?

No,[/quote]

No, I've seen letters exactly like those on vids of him playing no 1

Nope, he had those exact letters on it, early 80s

Rene acquired those letters from CBS' art department shortly before SRV performed on David Letterman. Upon getting pre-approval from Stevie, he commented that he liked the script.

Just want to point out that the pole peices on those pickups have beveled edges where as the pole peices on the CD Texas Specials are not. How much of a difference would that make to the sound?

I have actually heard that #1 had pickups that were very close to fat 50's today
