Hello Fender aficionados. I'm looking for help / advice. I bought a Stratocaster guitar from a friend, the neck is a Custom Shop but the numbers are hard to read on the neck heel. The body is a non custom - just an American body I believe. I'm thinking of ebaying them but I'm not sure if it would cause confusion if I sold the two together as a complete guitar. Before I decide anything perhaps some of you could tell me more about the neck or body by looking at the pictures and serial numbers. My friend mentioned it being a 65 Reissue, is that correct? Are there any other spots I can photograph for more info? Thanks!

Which are saying is fake? The body or neck and how do you know this? I know my camera sucks and makes it look terrible [it made my red P-bass look like an orange sunbust]. The neck says Fender and Custom Shop under the lacquer, I'm not sure that could be faked, the "Stratocaster" word has been watermarked-on but I think that's how they come as seen on this Ebay Post. The "Custom Shop" and "Fender" are under the clearcoat and shows no signs of a watermark. What about the body?

Just so we're clear I'm not being defensive - I just need to know everything I can so when I take it back to my friend I can give indisputable reasons for wanting my money back. Is there any additional pictures I can post for you to have a better look to make sure your decision is 100% correct.

The headstock decal is fake, The CS logo on the back is fake, The neck is Mexico or Korea made, that just the neck.

Thanks, I didn't notice you were an actual Fender Employee. I guess that's indisputable. I appreciate the help.

I want my money back but I know this "friend" will just sell it to someone else and rip them off. Can anyone help me find out what the body is? Or should I post that in the non custom shop section?

A "Friend" wouldn't have sold you this in the first place, and if they are a "Friend" they will give you your money back.

As to it being a fraud, with all the parts out there, I have no doubt the body is a fake as well.
Have your friend sell it on the bay as a replica or home build.

More of a Friend of a Friend, I don't know him that well. But I'll get my money back. He never claimed that the body was a Custom Shop, just that it was American. It says Feb 04 1999, But it starts with the letter Z, which wasn't used until 2000. BUT fender mentions "As always, there is typically some number prefix overlap and carryover from year to year." Does that mean the body is at least American? If it was Mexican it would start with an "M" I think.

By the way, nice bike!

BassP, Mike's not just an "actual Fender Employee," he IS the Fender Custom Shop. You probably know that by now, but here's a link of interest: http://www.fender.com/customshop/news/index.php?display_article=103 .
