[quote="FindaGuitarTeacher"]How cool is that? I noticed that Jeff Beck has also donated some equipment and that one might be able to get a guitar or amp for as little as $300. I wonder which amp or guitar that might be.quote]

Likely none. If history repeats itself, the numbers coming out of these sales are going to be stratocastic!!

Yes, I do believe those two are arguably the best releases of the past few years. For me at least. And yes, only lunch and supermarket money this year. Unless, No that's it. Have you seen the new Harrison Gretsch?

Ah the Gretsch 6128 GH ...
What a stunning guitar. :D
Bad news is the price... :(

One of my old high school guitar mates still has his original 6128. Vintage Guitar Magazine just did a cover story on it. I currently have in my email save box, some interesting 'case candy' from that guitar which I'm going to email to Alain. Pehaps he can post it to the Forum for all to share. :?:  I can't do it from here in Florida on this computer.

Doc.

Freaky when you see something like that which you've had personal knowledge of in its time. Not only the guitar but the local vendor where it was purchased. I felt that the price point would be of interest.
Additionally, it was likely built right there in NYC, in the old factory in Williamsburg, Bklyn. Another one of us purchased a Stratocaster in the similar time frame whose neck date was 11/58. I eventually came to own it. It's the guitar I've written about in these pages often. It was priced about $60 higher and that did NOT include the case, either. We are all still close friends and get togther at least quarterly.
If you Google a band called AGENTZ, you hear Roger's son Jason playing. He honed his chops on that guitar. Regrettably, he's put it down in favor of his law books and hasn't played for years.

The Blue Caps of Gene Vincent had also one.

It's interesting how hindsight frames our points of view, isn't it? Until the advent of the current crop of rock idols, we weren't THAT manic about guitars, though Buddy Holly was the major influence in my friend's decision to purchase that Strat. Gibsons were pricey gear even back then and my guess is that Roger was looking for something affordable, yet current, and the '59 LP sunburst had not yet reached the notoriety of an MB 300 SL Gullwing. Of course, Chuck Berry played a Gibson, but that wasn't influence enough to leave Fender. The Gretsch guitar was part of the rockabilly music scene, and The Blue Caps's Cliff Gallup's use of that guitar was a major influence on Jeff Beck ('Crazylegs'). The current issue of Vintage Guitar documents the evolution of the Duo Jet with some interesting light on it, including the fact that the original headstock logo is scripted and a very rare find. I just answered an email from Roger thanking me for posting the material. As a footnote, Gary's '58 Strat and Concert amp fell to me when the Jaguar was released. He went for an all white finish and the Dual Showman amp. Surf music was upon us, the Ventures and the Beach Boys all the rage. The front man in the trio I worked with in the mid 60's played a Gretsch Tennessean, now known as Tennessee Rose. I have no doubt that Alain has real time memories of all of this as do I. His observations corroborate my remarks.

Exactly, Mike. The 'Tennessean' was a "Chet Atkins" model. Seems they no longer have the rights to use his name. It has fallen to Gibson now.

I'm waiting on the catalog. I ordered in December not long after this thread was posted. The order went in via California. I was told to expect in in early February. Viewing in NYC begins March 5th.
