Why does these projects have to have a marketing hook? What's a 1960's Eric Clapton neck profile.? How different could it be from the 60's fast neck, if the are doing a reproduction of a guitar of that vintage. :?: Is their anything which supports Clapton having modified that guitar from stock back then? :? .....and custom Bucker pickups....are these supposed to duplicate the stock pickups of that vintage? Somebody refresh my memory but wasn't that guitar stolen? For that nice piece of change it doesn't come close to any of Fender's Tribute guitars in terms of specs. Rather go for the Bonamassa if I were looking for a match. I'll keep my LP Elegant, thank you.

the LP is really meant to be more of a Clapton model LP (rather than replication). However, since EC has spoken so fondly of that particular guitar it is to be expected that some of the features of the new model will be what was found in the original.

of course, its been a LONG time since EC himself laid hands on it so how accurate his recollection is - who knows.

the only way to 'buy in' to this model, is to view it as a Clapton signature LP that is based on a combination of Beano specs and his own preferences.

The Gibby forums are full of loathing and disdain for this model, either because:

- some dont buy into the notion of signature guitars in the first place
- they are looking for a Beano replica and dont understand that this is not intended to be a replica

anyway, i would expect the neck to be very similar to an r0. initial reports from some who have tried some of the few to have hit stores already is that it is very slightly thicker than a typical r0 with a bit more shoulder.

.............please pass this on to Gibson's marketing division. They seem of a different opinion. :?

.............The promo copy in the link you posted says it all for me. It's a total fabrication. It's not a reproduction of the guitar that started it all. What they've built never existed in that form. The entire narrative by the contributor with respect to that guitar is all hype. Where he's getting it all from is beyond me. Here we go, lost in la la land once again, for what reason I don't know. Talking about a '59 Les Paul Standard as the guitar that started it all might be a starting point for contemporary rock guitar. And that's even a stretch for Les Paul historians. This Clapton promo is a joke! Bring 'em back down to earth where it belongs and sell the guitar for what it is, at a realistic price.

has the usual marketing hyperbole that would accompany any company's upcoming release.

it is a fine line (but i believe more than semantics) that they refer to it as a 'recreation' of the guitar rather than a 'replica'.

im good with it - but then that probably doesnt surprise you:)

Did you plan on bidding or just wishing?? Come to NYC and we'll spend a day at the weekend at the viewing. It'll be reminiscent of standing in front of Manny's window on 48th Street, with my nose pressed to the glass,...dreaming.....of that '58 Stratocaster......long, long, ago....in a galaxy, far,far away.

Manny's was an amazing place! Just to walk around and look at the autographed photos of artists who had been in there was like visiting a museum.

You know Mike, I've known that street like the back of my hand these past 55 years or more. I began studying piano down there in a studio above the space now occupied by Sam Ash Music, where Jimmy's, among others, was once housed, Jimmy's son married the first cousin of my ex-wife. I remember when the Metropole was going full bore out there on the corner and one could occasionally peek around the corner of the entrance and see Gene Krupa on the narrow stage behind the bar. I've actually been on that stage myself. A tough climb up, but it was liking standing on the summit of Everest for the worth of its music history.

well, i was hoping (beyond hope really) that my meager budget might get me into something - acoustic or something, as you know - he means a lot to me.

but i was planning on going to the viewing, regardless -so maybe we should check it out. would give us a chance to meet each other, finally, if nothing else.

i actually will be based in ny 3days a week come the new year for a long term project there - we should get a coffee if nothing else!
