Same here and I agree. The Soldano rig would interest me if I had the sort of cash it'll probably go for. For now I'll stick to my 20W Soldano and EC strats. The neighbours will be relieved...

Actually you've got an interest for the SLO-100 Super Lead Overdrive head.

Eric used a pair of SLO-100s with Marshall 4x12 cabs and EVM-12 speakers for crunch and clean.

I would like to know the story behind the custom gray color EC used.

I had both a HR 50 XL, SLO and 2x12 cabinet in the same gray.

It's not "custom" though is it? Just a regular option on the Soldano gear (Black/Gray/Snakeskin)

Well it isn't one of their "standard" colors per se (in that I mean, it's not an advertised color option). I had to specifically ask for it when ordering those amps and cabinet. I had spoken to Mike about it directly when I ordered the SLO and 2x12. He assured me it was possible and then called back to confirm and let me know it would be covered off the some roll of gray that was originally ordered for EC.

Apparently EC was the first one to order and request the gray in question.

Cheers,

Eric was not alone. Mark Knopfler has also ordered the custom grey SLO-100 when it came into production in the late 1980s.

According to Wikipedia "Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler purchased the SLO-100 when first released in 1987."

Well, I got my hard copy catalog. As discussed, not to many interesting EC guitars.

I am using my CS ECs with V-Ks and BJrs these days, depending on the venue.

It would be fun to see ECs V-Ks in person, they look pretty road worn.
I owned the Tweed Twin, but I just prefer the V-Ks these days.

Anyway, I noticed in the print catalog that Lee Dickson's name is not mentioned.
There is reference to Eric's "guitar tech" or "former guitar tech".
I was just curious, as Lee was mentioned frequently in the earlier auction catalogs.

I was going to go to the viewing, but the gear doesn't look all that exciting.

Lee has been replaced by Daniel Dearnley in late 2009/early 2010. Dan was Jeff Beck's guitar tech prior to that date.

Eric used the Vibro-King for nearly 2 years before switching to the Cornell Custom 80 tweed amps in 2004. His Leslie cabinet was driven by two Marshall JCM800 heads.

Ok, perhaps things have changed. I have a Soldano brochure although it is rather old! It lists the colours as Black, Gray, Snake and Purple for the SLO100 rackmount version (not even sure they do the rackmount anymore?).
As I say - the brochure is VERY old 8)

Doc.

Yeah.. even the different specs of the '97 Twins ECT2 & ECT3 - different valve & speaker configurations.

Look to the March issue of Vintage Guitar for an informative article on Lee as well as Mike Eldred.
