I'd change one word in your sentence...change "all" to "most".

Yeah, the guitars themselves aren't too impressive.

However - the amp selection is pretty special. You have one of EC's original 1957 twins and 2 of the original John Suhr re-creations. These amps were the centerpieces of EC's recent recordings/tours.

Also, you have his complete Soldano setup - this was the main rig for the 24 Nights/Journeyman recordings and IMHO one of his best tones ever.

"...These amps were the centerpieces of EC's recent recordings/tours..."

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

He has been using STOCK Fender Tweed Twins for years. He stopped using the recreations WE made him a long time ago. He gave one to BB King, and he sold that one as well.

Eric loves the Tweed Twins. Stock.

One amp of interest would be the Marshall/ Jaguar Bluesbreaker amp
http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/WService=wslive_pub/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=USA&screen=LotDetails&iSaleItemNo=4910149&iSaleNo=19226&iSaleSectionNo=1&sServer=http://images1.bonhams.com/&sPath=2010-12/16/8129012-110-1.jpg
Only 40 made .

Worth at least 3 times Bonhams estimate even without EC involvement.
A good match if you own also a Fender Jaguar/Strat

Thank you for the clarification Mike. I apologize for any confusion with my post, I should have clarified what I meant by "recent." Looking at it now, "recent" is a pretty subjective word when considering EC's massive career.

I meant no disrespect when I stated "...the Twins that Suhr built." Just my quick way of referring to them.

However, while you are clearly the authority on the matter - I thought EC was still using his original '57 Twins during the From The Cradle era (1994 - 1995). Actually, EC was still using Soldano SLOs for his ES-335 during the Cradle era.

The Suhr/Fender creations would come after this I would imagine, "Riding With The King," "Pilgrim" etc...although I've read four were built. One EC gave to BB King, and now he is selling two - keeping the original "ECT1," at least that is what the lot description mentions.

http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.s ... ectionNo=1

Actually, Lee Dickson stated in his interview with Tonequest Report, September 2001, "The last few years, [Clapton]'s been using these custom-built Fender Twins..."

In any event, my use of recent was misleading.

While this information could very well be incorrect, in Lot 137 (EC's Fender Twin amp rack) made for the Cream reunion shows - indicates he used the amps in Lot 93 (the Fender/Suhr Twins) for the Cream reunion shows and this was 2005; which was pretty recent. ;)

http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.s ... ectionNo=1

Nonetheless, thank you for the info Mike.

So, by my account from reviewing the Catalogue:
He's keeping the EC Grey Strat he used as his main Strat at the Crossroads 07, MSG with Steve Winwood, and countless other tours. Apparently the Black One he used for Voodoo Chile (which in my opinion that solo on the MSG is one of the greatest solos I have ever seen him do, really inspired that night) at the MSG with Steve Winwood, I could be wrong though.
He's keeping the John Black Cream Strat/ Only the spare is being auctioned.
He's keeping 4 of the 5 Beano Les Pauls he got, which is very cool because I would love to see him get back to his roots or at least cracking open the Les Paul for one or two songs like he used to do with the ES-335 before it got auctioned.

He's keeping most of the Special Edition Martins with the exception of his Belleza Bianca

Probably the only half interesting pieces from a guitar standpoint are his Daphne Blue Strat, the Cream Strat Spare, the Sun Strat, The Blackie Proto and the Beano #1.

Perhaps it's a more interesting auction from the amp standpoint, but I'd choose any of the above mentioned guitars over any amp, because he actually played and had a good relationship with these guitars; specially the daphne blue.

My two cents.

Cheers!

I suppose the implication is that there are individuals who figuratively 'get off' on this. :?

Well, I got my hard copy catalog. As discussed, not to many interesting EC guitars.

I am using my CS ECs with V-Ks and BJrs these days, depending on the venue.

It would be fun to see ECs V-Ks in person, they look pretty road worn.
I owned the Tweed Twin, but I just prefer the V-Ks these days.

Anyway, I noticed in the print catalog that Lee Dickson's name is not mentioned.
There is reference to Eric's "guitar tech" or "former guitar tech".
I was just curious, as Lee was mentioned frequently in the earlier auction catalogs.

I was going to go to the viewing, but the gear doesn't look all that exciting.

Ditto on that. What I found interesting reading were the details on the amp modifications which I would suspect goes to the issue of 'tone' discussed in these pages pages over the years. There's not been the same kind of detailed information made public about the various sound systems he's graduated from, and to, in my memory. Much of what we may have taken for granteda appears to have been heavily modified. I'll go down there for the hell of it, likely on the Sunday, and invite any other interested party in area to join me.

Doc.

Same here and I agree. The Soldano rig would interest me if I had the sort of cash it'll probably go for. For now I'll stick to my 20W Soldano and EC strats. The neighbours will be relieved...
