Don't know, but as for super glue, NO according to TK. regarding the ES-335 don't get me started. I used to own one of the 335's replicas, and they have considerable mistakes. I cannot post pics but look at Eric's original, the one that GC got at the 04 auction and then compare the body shape with on of the Replicas and the body on the replica, pick up placement controls, pickups and neck joint are completely off with respect to the original, not Gibson's greatest hour IMO. I sold my 335 because of this incredible mistakes.

Hey ufboy73, I asked the super blue question to Todd specifically on this guitar and that was a NO on that one, all I know is he's been using that neck consistently for the past 12 plus years so the wear is related to the playing.
Here is the link of the pcitures which are not very good mind you:

I'm not even sure if it is wear on that neck, I think it's actually just a very unusual wood pattern. The neck has a very unusual dark / light area above the 12th fret that is present on all the videos I've ever seen (from '98 onwards).

Got my order in today for the catalogue so hopefully they'll be out soon :D

We would also have to consider natural 12 year plus agging of the neck, which is very difficult to replicate in an accurate way.

Tried to find a good vid online and got this one. If you pause at exactly 13 seconds you'll see that light / dark thing. That's been present on this neck forever - that's how it's so easily recognisable in all the film footage from '98 onwards.

I think JW Black just had a thing for really figured (if that's the right word) wood.

PS - try not to watch the video 20 times in row

PPS - (edit) Obviously this was slightly before the Cream 2005 Reunion when the neck was fitted to the original LS equiped black body.

Superglue is a kind of poly but drying much faster and applicable in a thinner layer on the neck.
Highly polluting so no more allowed.

yeah, that is a really nice neck...you must love playing and just eyeing that one!

i dont know if you've ever seen it but my all time favorite TK neck has got to be a ridiculously tinted flame neck that i saw on one of Stratokazter's (i think thats his username - one of the original Triplet owners) guitars....just ridiculous. i sent that pic to todd when i was originally thinking i was getting the Blackie with flamed nek - not surprisingly, he thought it might be tough to get one as nice!:)

i think so...but also that Eric seemed to favor how it felt...when they were able to provide him with a thin sealer that felt similar, that is when they were able to change over

its got to be both right? in the cream concert on some of the close ups it definitely looks like there is wear on top of the highly figured grain - i will have to check when i get home later this week but i could have sworn that i saw very prominent flame (not birdseye) on some of the headstock shots??

I can't decide!

I know there's always been that light / dark contrast in the pattern above 12th fret (and a bit below) but I've never been able to figure if that neck is basically flamed / birdseye / a bit of both or something else! haha.

The DVD that came with Back Home has some stunning close-ups.. but even then I can't decided.

It's unique.

Yeah, I love playing it, though I don't leave it out because of fear of the neck acting out. This AAA figured types of necks react too much to climate changes so you have to be extra careful.

When Todd and I were discussing the neck, he pinpointed finally where it came from and he said that it was definitely a much flamed neck (not Birdseye) so he gave me four samples to choose from. I chose the most figured and then he just tinted the neck. The rest will need some 12 odd years and some serious playing to look like Eric's; also I figure things were built a little differently at Fender 12 years ago. Another thing Todd confirmed is that those guitars are NOT nitro cellulose but thin skin urethane, I said are you sure cause another dealer has them listed MB's as nitro, and he said he would call them to change that, so Thin skin Urethane.

Anyway, this is as close as you can get without spending a fortune on Eric's actual guitar. Everything else is exactly per Eric's, no signature on the back; no TBX, booster and VN pickups, I don't think I left anything out, oh yeah, and the wiring, whatever THAT means. It's an amazing guitar.

Cheers!

M.

When I hear 'superglue' I think cyanoalacrylate (e.g.CrazyGlue). I expect that the material we're speaking of is not the same. In any event, this material afforded the advantages of a polyseal without the heaviness? Clapton necks are matte finish as well.

Hey Lefty I just checked the video and yes it's the same neck. I don't think this neck went into a different strat I just think he added the new booster and pickups. Very nice guitar indeed.

Now there's an interesting wrinkle you could query TK about :?: if it means anything different in the circuitry beyond just wiring in the substitution of the TBX. :?

Hey Doc, nice to see you around for another chat of Clapton's axes. I believe ME was the one that very accurately pointed out the differences between the Artist, Team Built and Master Built models and one of them was the wiring, but for the life of me I cannot remember in which forum were such issues discussed. We can start by considering that the MB does not have any TBX, so that would be one. Don't know what else though.
Hope you have a good day Sr.
M.

I remember that series of discussions and the detailed differences between the builds, as well as the other thread, of great length, which ultimately ended with the verification that only the Masterbuilt guitar was minus a TBX (that arose out of a error in the specs description on the CS website). As far as anything different about the actual circuitry (such as the way the JV guitar's tone circuits are wired) I don't recall anything other than a standard Strat wiring
pattern, pots, and resistors.
