Oh no...don't make me go all anorak-trainspotter on you Mike! Okay, basically and personally I was a little disappointed that after the amazing attention to detail of the 2004 50th 1954 Stratocaster, that you didn't lavish such time and expertise upon an instrument as special as the Broadcaster.
I would have liked you to taken an original Broadcaster and cloned it like Chris Fleming did with Richard Smiths '54 Strat. Sure, it would have cost more , but the end result would have been alot different. Its the little things that make the difference...mis-aligned string ferrules, serial numbers on bridge, bridge plate with finish change from front to back (polished to dull), 'Kluson' name tuners etc etc. Hey! You even ditched the maple truss rod fill from the proto to the production model. U shape neck profile? Broadcasters ranged from a V to a D neck I was lead to believe, but then again I have only played two.
A Nocaster is not a Broadcaster with a chopped decal, but yet that is what I felt the 60th Broadcaster was. As production in 1950 evolved so did the guitar. I don't need to tell you how many changes took place that year and I would expect in defence you will tell me that there wasn't a definative Broadcaster because of this, but had you of cloned a good example then the historians and collectors like myself would have been happy. I had waited since the Custom Shops conception for you make a real and true Broadcaster and was left wanting. Don't get me wrong I went and tried one , but it didn't feel special like the 50th '54 Strat was and I know I wasn't alone in that sentiment.
Despite this...I still love you maaan, and I love the things the C.Shop does. Period.

Here's the 60th Broadcaster BC61....

Alain ... ask your webmaster to watch the error console in "Charles" or any other local proxy.

Good luck

David

Here's BC77. My own delightful Broadcaster! It actually doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me that it isn't an exact clone of one particular Broadcaster, or that the serial number isn't on the bridgeplate. If Fender had had a free hand to produce them in the numbers of the '54 Anniversary Strat then they might have been closer in detail...or maybe not. There may have been a decision made to keep them identifiably different from the originals...for obvious reasons!

My sole disappointment was that there wasn't a piece of tape in the control cavity signed by "Gloria," or even "Dotty!" :D

More like his 'soul' disappointment by the sound of it. Consider that their spirits are part of the legend.

"Miss-aligned string ferrules" - They did not all have that, and that (to us) is not something that we would want to replicate...just as we would not want to replicate some of the irregularities of the dot spacing, strap button placement, etc.

Bridge plates - We have seen the bridge plates both ways. Either way would be correct. We also did not stamp the plates for the simple reason that we felt people would "part-out" these replicas in order to build copies or use the bridge as a replacement.

Walnut -vs- Maple plugs - The simple truth here is that sometimes they used Maple plugs. Sometimes. So, when we did that Broadcaster run (and when we do the Nocasters), we sometimes use Maple plugs...sometimes. Look around, you'll see some. There are two containers of plugs in the CS. One is walnut, and one is Maple.

Also, one thing you seem to have missed is the lack of the wire route under the pick guard, the tighter control route, and tighter pickup routes.

You seem to suggest that they (less than 200 some people say) were all built one way. That is nonsense, and as with the 1954 project, we have to pick one example and do the entire run like that guitar.

Sorry...forgot some stuff...the off-center seam, the knobs, and the tooling holes and nail holes ...I think that's it.

1.) Nope! Didn't miss anything.....I said 'etc etc' I know the finer details thanks just didn't want to bore you with them.

2.) I didn't suggest either that they were all built one way as I said...'As production in 1950 evolved so did the guitar. I don't need to tell you how many changes took place that year and I would expect in defence you will tell me that there wasn't a definative Broadcaster because of this'

3.) Never seen bridge plates all one finish, but then again I have only played two. So I have learnt something new there.

You asked me what was wrong with the Broadcaster, I answered. Just sayin'. I felt you missed an opportunity to recreate a legendary Fender instrument in all its historic glory. Maybe one day that opportunity may arise again? I hope so. Cheers.

Problem with having 'been raised' on Stratocasters is never having become completely comfortable with a Tele's body, the very reason for which the Strat's body contours were conceived.Swapped out a really sweet TelePlus for a Clapton Strat many years ago for the comfort factor. In retrospect, I regret it just for not having that guitar in my stable. What great rock guitar that was.
