The reason your's was cheaper is because it was team built, which is a number of highly trained builders building in the CS factory. The ones you say that were up to $7000 were masterbuilt, which means it was built by one builder in the workshop part of the CS factory, not in the factory floor with all the machines. Its more expensive for one guy to handbuild a guitar than a group of builders.

ok thanks!! So what your basically saying is the quality is pretty well the same its just that the extra cost for the higher priced CS STRATS is for the pay wage for the master builder and probably his extra attention to detail. Were original strats in the late 50 to mid 60s built in the same fashion? I mean built by a highly trained team of luthiers ,and for special orders a master builder?

koocho, while there are several books on the topic, "Fender, The Sound Heard 'Round The World" by Richard R. Smith is an excellent read if you want to know the early history of Fender and how the built guitars and amplifiers back in the day.
