Here in Europe Popa chubby is a well known bluesplayer. Can anybody tell me which CS pickups are close to his sound? I own a LPB CS 1960 strat with fat 50 's pickups.

Thanks in advance

If you go to www.licklibrary.com there is a twenty minute interview with him where he talks about his whole rig and setup, while jamming with Stuart Bull. I was surprised how big of a following he has in France as they love him there.Last time I saw him was about 13 years ago playing a street fair in Brooklyn.

Thanks Straycat.

Popa is very well known all over Europe. Germany, France, The Netherlands. I saw him playing a lot of times, and always for vast crowds.

Most of his guitars are from the '60s. The CS'69 are a good bet.

Popa Chubby rocks! In my book, he is one of the most entertaining guitar players today. I go out of my way to see him. The problem is that he seems to be spending a *lot* of time in Europe. I don't get many opportunities to see him here in the states.

Well, as far I can see Popa has a great affection for an SD JB Jr in the bridge.

Just by looking at that pic, you can't tell if it's a JB Jr, a Little'59, or a Li'l Screamin' Demon. The Li'l Screamin' Demon has slug poles in one coil and screw poles in the other, the JB Jr and Little'59 have screw poles in both coils, but that pic isn't clear enough to differentiate between slugs and screws.

Nor can you tell if he has "great affection" for it. Most of his Strats have 3 single-coils -- he might only use that particular Strat for one or two songs where he needs to be able to switch between humbucker and single-coil tones. It might even be a loaner guitar, or just something he was experimenting with.

The guitar in question has a pull-out switch in the master volume pot to split the humbucker.
