Hello all.
Ive had my CS deluxe strat for a couple of months now and i love it to bits, but noticed something the other day the has me a bit stumped.
If i rake across the strings with my fretting hand muting. I get a definate string noise/ringing/dull squeal from the high e string only above the nut to the tuning peg. The rake and mute is good, and the string is dead from where ever i mute it from on the fret board to the brige. The noise is very noticable when raking heavily SRV style on Pride and Joy.
This model has no string trees. Could this be the cause or something else amiss. Help please.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like it's rattling due to the fact that there is little break angle over the nut. If that is in fact the case then string trees should indeed fix the problem, however it could also be an improperly cut nut slot at the high E position.
If it were my guitar, I think I'd add a string tree for the high E and B strings, and see if that fixes the problem. If that's not it I'd take the guitar to someone a little more skilled than myself and have them try and diagnose it for me.

To be honest i dont really want to fit a string tree. The head stock has a lovely finish and looks nice and clean without it. Gonna take it back to the shop and see what they say. Dont get me wrong, i think this guitar is brilliant. But i think that its a bit poor that ill have to start adding bit to cure the problem on a nearly 2k guitar.

Wind the higher strings closer to the bottom of the tuner post.

Cheers Mike.
Will give it a go when im in from work. As you probably know this guitar has locking tuners and there is only a third of a turn, if that, on the high e to get it up to pitch. This is how i recieved the guitar from new.
Is that about right as ive never had locking tuners before?

Tried that Mike and no joy. Gonne run it back to the shop on saturday and see what they say. Will probably end up going down the string tree route (no pun intended).
