Hello Alain,

Maybe you can answer this question for me since I've seen your collection have a few of these (anyone else please feel free to comment)>

I've been interested in a couple of Custom Shop guitars I've seen at the Music Zoo. Trouble is, I don't live in NY.
The maple fretboards are heavily reliced and I have never played one. Question is, is it just an aesthetic thing or can you actually feel a texture difference in the wood or is it a seamless feel?
Also, why haven't I seen the same done on rosewood fretboards?

Thank you.

I'm not Alain, but I may be able to help. I have a "heavy relic" maple neck tele. While the "worn" sections are a little indented (probably the thickness of the finish, which is thin anyway) and the texture is a little different, I don't feel them at all when playing.

With 6105 frets on mine the board is rarey touched, anyway. If yours has vintage frets then perhaps you'll feel them, but I doubt it.

Seems rosewood is stonger thus letting less worn sections.

Regarding the maple fretboard, as cc9cii said you won't feel any significant difference whatever frets you are using.

My biggest fear was the Yngwie Malmsteen Tribute Strat with its scalloped neck.
Well , you don't feel it so much in fact

Nothing to worry about.

I have several CS relics, and I really am not aware of the "wear" spots when playing! I think that if you were to feel them, you would then be creating your own wear anyway!

I have an old Tele with a rosewood board that has seen a lot of use, and has deep wear spots, (see below) but I can't feel those when I play either!

Thank you so much guys,

Alain, that was exactly what I meant. The wear on this maple neck is just as bad as the "PLAY LOUD" tribute, though not scalloped.
I'm guessing they put a finish on it after they wear it down?
Dunno, I just can't wait to get it!!!

No additional finish, just bare wood.
