"He doesn't chop down the tree."

Now that would be a hot option, Mike!

[quote="Mike Eldred - Fender"]This is the general outline.......

Now this is something which should be incorporated into the Custom Shop website, if not already  . However, it still remains a mystery to me why they never got the neck right.

What neck? ME

Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I ordered a Team Built Stratocaster whose neck was to have a satin finish, vintage tint, a Clapton neck carve a rosewood board, medium jumbo frets and vintage gold tuners.
The guitar was delivered at about 18 mos and the COA read 1965 NOS and the neck appropriate to that guitar and year. It was returned with specifics to the neck, and given priority attention. Six months later the guitar returns with a 10/56 soft-V neck and a gloss finish. Two years and out of patience I relented.
This was before the inception of the Forum herein which I have come to learn that Todd should have built that guitar for me. I've told this tale often in these pages. In October of 2008 the guitar became a Gilmour and I came to learn that the CS did not last long on the dealer's wall. Interesting to note that I came to find it there again. Apparently it was not as well loved by the second owner either.
I have no issues with anything about how the order was handled either initially or on the return. What every happened on your end was never explained, and I was beyond interested in knowing.
Presently I, and what may amount to hundreds of prospective customers, are waiting for the factory to get up to speed, having apparently backed into a slicing machine and gotten a little behind in its orders. :D

Time tested moral:

"You can please some of the people some of the time.
You can please some of the people all of the time.
You can't please all of the people all of the time."

...............at least we know you try. 8)

Doc

Mike-Thanks for your time but I don't think you've answered the question. My masterbuilt was a run of 100 done by Chris Fleming. I didn't ever talk with him. He designed the guitar! My question (and I think many others) is; When you buy a Masterbuilt, what or how much of the guitar is built (wood selection, finish, relic'ing, assembly etc.) by, in this case, Chris Fleming or the senior Masterbuilder? Typically who does what? How many other workers would have worked on the guitar? What work is done by the Senior Masterbuilder himself, and whats done, under his supervision, by others? Mike , thanks for your time!

It's you and the builder. That's what you're paying for...one on one....and no intermediaries. 8)

I understand that I can go one on one with the Masterbuilder to get the guitar of my dreams. My question has to do with all the masterbuilt guitars that are conceived, built, then sent out to be sold without someone specific in mind. What work does the Master builder do? If I don't talk directly with the Master builder and I buy a masterbuilt guitar, what am I getting different than a teambuilt? Better parts? More detail?

You get the work product of that one individual for that project, be it a one-off, or a specific number in a series built by that individual. e.g. John Cruz is doing the Buddy Holly Stratocaster project....and will be building all 50 of them.

Dennis G is doing the Holly's. Not Cruz.

It all depends on the order. If it's a simple order, then the MB can work with apprentices on some things, If it's a double-neck bass / mandolin, then there is no templates, and the thing will be built mostly by hand by the MB.

Builder selects like your Tele was designed by the MB and he built it.
