I've heard that a 50/50 mix of baking soda and cinnamon, liberally sprinkled in the case and left for a while, will get rid of the smell!

I'm thinking the case is a write-off. My wife can't even stand me airing it out in the back yard.

Maybe a refin is whats needed (hush of the crowd), and a new case afterward.
Pardon me if I shocked the conscience of my fellow CS owners.

I read every post of all eight pages of this thread. And firstly, I want to say that I really feel for you. It must have been extremely frustrating throughout those first four or five pages to have told people the same thing over and over again. I really don't understand how some people just weren't getting what you were saying. Hell i was getting frustrated just reading it

If the guitar has been out of the case for over a year and the smell is STILL there, its definitely not the case. I would just polish it and clean it twice a day without exception. With enough consistency and persistence, anything can be fixed. It may take months but one good wipe down when you wake up and one more when you go to bed might help and it definitely couldn't hurt. As for your setup issues, I've found that the best way to figure out what may be wrong with a guitar is to simply talk to a paid professional...in person.

No offense to the people on this forum, but I have found that getting a straight answer out of anyone over the internet with complete understanding is nearly impossible. Most area's have an experienced luthier. Talk to people in your area's music scene and find out one generally accepted guy. For us over here in the Rogue Valley in OR, its a guy named Steve Spalding. I searched for months to answers to some questions about my guitar on this forum and didn't really hear anything helpful until I talked to Mr. Spalding. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I feel for you and I genuinely hope you get stink out.

Solution #2 put some cottonballs in your nostrils and SHRED! 8)

I had a new Japanese Fender Strat from the '80s. It had the sweetest smelling rosewood fretboard! Every time you took it out if the case, you got a blast of Rosewood. I could remember that scent driving down the freeway.
I also had a new 335, Heritage H150 and current Deluxe Player-their rosewood boards were/are neutral.
Warmoth site claims Palisander Rosewood (Dalbergia baroni) is the sweetest scented fretboard! Wish I could replace just the fretboard.

We just passed the two year mark since I started this thread so an update seems in order.

The guitar has been caseless all this time. The guitar still smells. All of the things that I tried to eliminate or minimize the smell didn't really help at all.

Out of the case the guitar does get played more though. Although it now has some guitar stand staining.

One thing I noticed recently about the fret board is that the slab board is about 1.2 mm thinner where it joins the maple neck at about the 9th fret than it is at the nut or 21st fret.
Why is that? Are other CS slab boards like that?

Hey, in searching for a solution for someone else, I found this stuff, and I think it may be worth trying. https://www.zorbx.com/newsite/people_od ... 4AoduCYAxA If you buy it and try it and it works (or doesn't) post and let us know.
