Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster and all that.

Anyway my girlfriend bought me a DG strat for my bday (I know shes a keeper isn't she!), except it seems to have all sorts of issues, when it arrived it kept fretting out on the top 2 strings above the 11th fret and the G string buzzes something chronic, so I sent it back to the music shop and the tech there said the neck and saddles were way off so he adjusted those and that fixed the fretting out but the G string still buzzes all over the place and the D string does as well but not quite so bad, I raised the saddle a little on the G string and think that helped a tad but its still not what I'd call custom shop quality since my deluxe plays better, bit of a bummer really on a guitar this expensive! does this sound like it needs another truss rod adjustment? or maybe an issue at the nut?

2nd issue is the whammy bar only screws in say 1 to 2 complete turns before it gets stuck, so you can still see all the thread sticking out the top, I've tried forcing it a bit but theres no way its going any further without stripping something, is that just an alignment issue maybe with the bridge being flat against the body?

Appreciate any info, so looking forward to having this thing playing 100%

:)

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry about your issues with the DG Custom Shop Strat. I've not had a single problem with mine but if I did this is the first place I'd start. Do you have your card?

Hi there and thanks!

Yeah I signed up for the customercare card last week, probably take a while before I receive it from what I've read, I've had a look at the whammy bar hole and it looks like it doesn't line up with the bit underneath which is making the bar go in on an angle, how do you go about fixing something like that? does that mean I've got a screw bridge or something?

Just thought I'd post an update re this, took it to my local luthier and he said it looks like a tiny bit of moisture might have gotten in at the top end of the neck and has raised those frets ever so slightly, so he's going to do a fret dress and full set up for me, bit of a bummer that a brand new guitar needs a fret dress but I guess that's what happens when they travel all the way to colder new Zealand, he's not sure what the whammy bar issue is yet so is going to take the bridge off and take a look, should be all ready next week. Can't wait :-)

Make sure that this tech. of yours is Fender Authorized . I'm sure you have but I would not let anyone do anything without having Fender approve it first. I know it's frustrating and you want it fixed as soon as possible but please go through the Fender Custom Shop Custom Care system!! Just a word of caution my friend. Good luck in resolving your problems.

Don't forget that the vibrato arm is not a rank and file item. It is short with an emergence angle consistent with the way David had his designed for his playing style. Same goes for the way in which the claw is set for the number of springs. You certainly can modifiy this guitar's setup in any fashion that suits you but it was designed and spec'd out in detail by the artist and that is the design those of us who acquired one received. Awesome guitar right out of the box. Hope you get the bugs out.

Doc.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd post the conclusion on this, took it to the luthier who was authorised and recommended to do the fix, he did a small fret dress to the top frets to level them out and a complete set up, it's better afterwards but im thinking I still get the occasional buzz because of the low action so I made that a tad higher which did help some more, so now I just get a bit of buzz if I don't hold the notes properly with some chords etc, when compared to my deluxe with medium jumbos it doesn't seem to buzz ever really, im thinking this is just the difference between vintage wire and larger wire, the vintage wire will always have a little bit of buzz maybe.. guess ill have to learn to live with it, it doesn't come through the amp so isn't too bad I guess.

And the whammy bar issue was fixed by winding the bar in then out then in a little further each time till it was all the way in, when I took it out completely it had a small sliver of thread on the bar, works perfectly now but im guessing checking the bar winds in isn't part of the quality control process, would have thought it would be on custom shops..

Thanks for the help :)

This sounds like a tap and thread issue with possibly an imperfection in either the block, the bar or both.
