Attempted delivery of my masterbuilt strat but missed a signature by 10 minutes. The anticipation is.... you can imagine.
In my line of work we have a saying: When you hear hoofbeats think horses, not (insert relatively rare hooved animal here). In other words common things are common when considering diagnostic possibilities, don't think of rarities. I wanted something really unique and uncommon in a stratocaster and masterbuilder Paul Waller is such a can do kind of guy that he pulled it off at least in the photos he sent me.
I'll take photos as soon as I get my hands on it. I didn't name the other animal in the aphorism because it can be a metaphor for a feature of this guitar.
Hopefully I can show it off very soon!
Cheers

Great detective work!
Here it is:

Paul Waller was so fantastic. I gave him a general overview of the vision and told him I wanted to do the strat equivalent of "zebra" alternating pickup covers and let's do the knobs too. He said how about the bridge saddles and tuners too and while we're at it, the Fender decal! He also hand wound and signed the pickups starting with 65's as a base. I wanted a satin finish and also a rosewood fingerboard with vintage binding. It is so smooth and good feeling I can't get over it. Fullers Vintage Guitars and especially Eric there helped make this happen. In honor of John Lennon's 70th, I want to get blisters on mah fingers tonight.

Nice. I really like the resolution of your camera. The guitar look really great.

Thanks gomania, it's a Nikon Coolpix P-90. I liked the name!
But I think it's Paul Waller's work that is shining through.

Thanks! I was hoping it would be a bit overdone. I know people would either like it or detest it.

I found out the finish is WLS which is a high solids clear urethane that has a satin finish - very durable. Amazing feel on the neck and body. I opted to not get a pickguard to show off the figured part of the zebrawood. The finish is scratch resistent.

I'm playing around with the pickups. I told him I wanted something to capture Hendrix, Knopfler, and John Mayer all while retaining the bell like clarity of 65s. It has S1 switching too. Amazing the tonal ranges available on it.

Good to see they still know how to build a beautiful guitar, in a Fender world full of Relics...

Cool pictures and excellent guitar. I met Paul when he visited Toronto during the SC road show. Very nice guy with a lot of skill. I loved his take on some vintage pickups.

Enjoy NGD.

Thanks NGD. He was a real pleasure to work with and an excellent craftsman. I have one other CS guitar and a couple of Gibsons and this one plays the best.

Thanks ME! I am so impressed with this guitar. Really amazing!

And congrats to you in France, great goings on! (I'm jealous, me Mom's French and I'd love to be there).

Anyone out there thinking of a satin finish, take a look at WLS. Really something. The neck is like nothing else I've played.

I liked Paul's signature too. Anyone with neat penmanship is probably meticulous in craftsmanship and he is.

Cheers,
Phil
