I have a 09 CS Clapton. Amazing guitar. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this: the wood (rosewood?) on the headstock where the truss adjustment is seems to be peeling. It has a thin layer of semi-transparent something or other peeling up from the dark wood. Anyone know what this is? Wondering if the poly spray from the neck is coming up or something like that. Is there a good way to fix it? Should I just peel it back? Leave it alone? Looks odd, so I'd like to fix it if possible.

Thanks!

Eddie

Thanks. It is but I'm not a big fan of the Custom Care specialist in my area at all. Mostly interested interested in knowing what it is.

I've seen it on couple necks in the past, this can happen if the finish is not sticking too well anymore to the walnut plug which is no big deal, or if the walnut plug is getting loose/expanding thus lifting the finish. If it's the latter I'd take it to your Custom Care even if you're not fond of them...

Your guitar sounds nice. How about a pic of it and the offending component.

Hi,

I'm guessing the finish is not sticking and its not an issue with the plug loosening. Definitely appreciate that I should be able to take the guitar to the CS repair person, but my custom shop authorized repair person actually dinged the guitar, opened up my tweed case on trash can, slathered lemon oil everywhere on the guitar (body, neck, hardware), and set it up so poorly that I would never bring the guitar back to him. I have already spoken to the Fender Customer Care about the experience.

Here's a picture:

I have a good guitar tech that I'll take it to, just wanted to see if anyone knew what it was.
Thanks![/img]

Simply the satin poly coating on the neck that was probably disturbed by a truss rod adjustment. No big deal at all.
