I turned the $150 used cheap ugly Squier affinity into this bass with two F. vintage noiseless pickups. The bass is passive but the sound is so good that I put my $800 active bass Dean EQ5 ( IMG Hz pickups) away in closet.

Cool man! it looks like you used neck inserts cuz it doesn't have a neck plate, am i right?
And if so, did it improve sustain?

No, I painted the chrome plate to match the colour. The four screws are still there.

Nice swirl and spin paint job.

I just bought a Squier Precision bass which is also in the process of an overhaul, body is being stripped as of now.

As far as electronics, I was going to modify it to a Precision as well as a Jazz pickup set up with active/passive capabilities.
Similar to the Sadowsky Precision Bass

Any input to advise on ??

Thanks

This passive bass is louder and punchier than my active $800 bass ( Dean Bass with EMG pickups). The passsive pickups I use are Fender Noiseless Vintage. IMHO, the only difference is you can tune the sound knobs from the bass body on active vs to do it on the amp.

Sure, I spent the whole summer for the project. The idea is to make the paints float on water, mix them up with a stick ( use garbage bin and fill water to the top then add a box of borax ) and dip your guitar into it, then use lots of old newspaper to pick out leftover paints on the water surface before pull the guitar out. Too much paint, it will sink or too little paint, it will dry out too quickly. There is no measurement on this but lots of testings to meet your personal taste.
