I am agonizing over the purchase of my first Strat. I know 1 thing. I want an American Made. Have spend hours reading the discussions about pros and cons of Deluxe vs. Std, maple vs. rosewood fretboards, alder vs ash bodies and Std single coil vs. SCN vs N3 pups. I have gone and tried out several Strats but there are 2 challenges there. The major one is that I am a novice and my playing really doesn' do the guitar justice and 2, the shop only has a limited number of guitars that meet my criteria.

I have just seen a custom shop Strat Deluxe advertised on ebay. has the following pups and was wondering what anyone's thoughts are.

Pickups: 1 Custom '69 Single-Coil Strat pickup with grey bobbin (neck), 1 reverse wound/reverse polarity Custom '69 Single-Coil Strat Pickup with Grey Bobbin (Middle),1 Texas Special Single-Coil Strat Pickup (Bridge)

Obviously my playing now is the limiting factor, but I still am striving for the "perfect" instrument. Don't know if it is worth my spending extra $$$ or just going with a stock Std and then seeing what I want.

With that pick-up configuration, it sounds like a Custom Deluxe,(':?') However you posted that you compared standards as well as deluxe's at the shops, those are not the same, meaning that a Custom Shop Deluxe is a very different axe than a run of the mill deluxe or standard, the Custom Shop Deluxe has a lightly flamed neck, (not available on a Deluxe.) Neck is a 65 "C" shape, also has a myriad of options, as well as has to be ordered thru select dealers.
I suggest going to the specs web-page on the Custom Deluxe and looking them over.
I have played a Custom Deluxe and I will be ordering one, but I also have a 56 NOS Strat. and the Custom Deluxe feels very much like the vintage reissue, that is not for everyone, my MIM and MIA strat are very different.....

As a novice I would not buy any guitar, let alone a supposedly Custom Shop Deluxe on E-Bay or for that matter anywhere online, simply put you have to place a guitar in your hands and find the right mix.
Online or E-Bay is going to be a gamble and you must know what to look for and ask from the seller.
Also a new Custom Shop Deluxe will set you back around $3,000.00 give or take, you did not mention any price with the guitar on E-bay, if the price sounds really good, you need to ask a lot of questions, not the least of which is full refund (minus Shipping) in the event the Deluxe is not what you were expecting..( good reason to go to a guitar shop).

Be patient and you will find the right guitar for now for the right price. :D
