Hi Guys

In a recent thread I stated that I was going to put my Custom 50's Pickups back into my NOS56 Strat.

I have now done this but I have another problem.

I am using Fender 12/52 Super 250 strings that come with a wound third string.

Not having used a guitar with a wound third before,I don't know how to adjust the pickups to make the third strings volume the same as the other strings, the 3rd string seems to lack volume.

Cam anyone help me overcome this problem,I like the sound I get with the 12/52's but this volume thing it driving me nuts.

Thanks

Alan

Looks like no-one has an answer to the problem

Maybe Mike Eldred will come up with a possible solution.

Normally staggered pups were made to accomodate the wound G string which was usual at that time.
Otherwise you have to increase the height on the high side of the pup, but then another problem arises..

Hello Alain

My it seems like ages since we spoke,I hope you are keeping well.

I have tried all the usual methods of adjusting the pickup height, which just alters the strings around the 3rd,so the problem still occurs.

I did pose the question to Fender UK,who came up with the idea of using a 26w as a 3rd instead of the 24w that comes in the Fender 12/52 set.

Having said that it still remains that, although that may cure the problem, although it could adversley affect playability,it still doesn't explain why it happened in the first place.

There must be thousands of players who use wound 3rd strings, and they don't have a problem.
