Opening a new discussion on a particular problem to a particularly sensitive Custom Shop model.

The dilemna of course as anyone who has either a 50's or 60's vintage or a Custom Shop Vintage reissue is the unwanted interference from outside electrical conduits.

Has any one succesfully dealt with this issue ? but most importantly, the mods cannot alter the guitar so that it devalues the guitar.

I must add that the hum/ interference is minimal when played thru a modern amp such as the Blues Junior or the Hot Rod Deluxe, but played thru my Magnatone, or any vintage amp, I swear I'm picking up Radio Free Europe at times.

Any One ???

You've pretty much answered your own questions in terms of, "they are what they are".

I had too this problem years ago. The only relief I was able to get in such cases (albeit limited) was to use super high quality cables but even at this, I'd still be picking up German radio stations and Boston Red Sox TV home games when facing the right/wrong direction(s). Note that I was on Staten Island at the time.

I believe that shielding and proper grounding on the guitar are a good way to start, but I also find this explanation makes a lot of sense:

Quote:
Another issue that comes into play at private homes is their receptacles and how they are grounded. Homes from the 50s and 60's have two slots in the receptacles for Neutral and Hot but not the u shaped grounding input on the bottom. Easiest thought would be to plug in a circuit check. Many Surge board have them built in with LEDs for the Grounding and Protection. When lighted they are working.

Even with the receptacles correctly grounded and up to code there are still issues with Single-Coil pups like Fluroesant Lighting, Computers, and TVs being to close to your rig.

But without actually seeing your rig, there are some ideas for you.

I run a dedicated circuit just for my amplifiers/guitars. The circuit is 120v 20amps Circuit Breaker with Two Switchable receptacles on it. I still plug a surge board into that before the musical devices. But I say all this because my issue here was the home circuits. This house was built in 1958. So there have been many many NEC code changes since then.
