I have heard so many stories about the original Tele neck pickups. A lot of people say that they are an acquired taste and there are other people that say they are totally useless, so when I discovered that my CS '52 Tele was NOT vintage-correct and that it had a Twisted Tele for a neck PU I was intrigued to say the least.

I now find myself using the neck PU about 80% of the time on my gigs. Since I am the only guitarist in my band the cutting tone of the bridge PU is too much for many of the songs we do and I find myself using it mostly for solos and flavoring. I've also found that the Twisted Tele by itself actually has more bite than the middle combined PU setting, so the choosing between the neck setting and combined setting is a more subtle choice.

I can't believe the vintage Strat-like tones that I've been getting out the Twisted Tele lately. When I crack the Tele through my '64 Super Reverb it just screams. It is a gorgeous full-bodied tone with just the right amount of top end and a nice warm midrange scoop, which I really like. When I switch over to the combined setting, my tone seems to get a little mellower, which is a little strange considering that I'm adding in the hot Broadcaster pickup. Maybe it's because the Twisted Tele is so hot and fat and the middle position cancels some of that out?

No matter. I just wanted to say that the Twisted Tele is easily one of the best Fender innovations of the new millennium. Rock on, guys! Anyone else care to chime in?

Cool. I feel the same way. That's what's in mine too.

Mike, have you heard of anyone putting Twisted Tele pickups in a Strat? Would it sound more Strat-like?

Great pickup and highly recommended! I love them and will be fitting another one soon.

It now appears to be available as a 'Mr Gearhead' Fender replacement part P.N. 0072267000 and marked as made in the USA.

Can anyone finally clear up the question as to where the 'Mexican' Baja versions are actually produced and if they are exactly the same spec as the Custom Shop ones?

Are all twisted tele pick-ups made equal?

I am aware that some are hand wound (and signed) by the legendary Abigail Ybarra and fetch high prices when sold.

Maybe if these had been around in the late 60s Hendrix might have been persuaded to occasionally swop his Strat for a Tele.
