Hi,

I repainted the bass and bought two new vintage pickups. I bought the multimeter and suppose to test the bass and electronic parts. Can some one please explain how to use this multimeter and what do I have to test? I looking for general checkup like hum and working wire and pots before I put the bass pieces back together. Thanks.

Basically, you can turn it on ohmeter and -without connecting the guitar,- test all the connections and/or solderings.
Then you can test each pup.

So, does that mean if I test the pups, wires and soldering joins and if the multimeter needle movesn then it's good? how to test the hum in the pickup cavities? Thanks.

Yes correct but you can't test "hum" with a multimeter

A multimeter is not used for hum

And it is best used to test each component when it's out of the circuit.

As in, a new pickup, you put one lead to each wire, and set to ohms.
If it reads 0, it's shorted and will not work
If it doesn't read anything, there is a break in the wire, and it will not work
If it reads like 3k ohms to 25kohms it is working
Most pups are in the 6k to 10k region

To test the assembly
Once you have everthing wired, before you screw the pickguard down,
just place it in the cavity, make sure no wires are pinched.
That the pickguard is laying flat.
Plug a cord into the jack, and an amp.
Move through each switch position and use a piece of guitar string
to tap on the pole pieces, make sure only the right ones make noise.
While tapping, turn the tone controls, and you;ll if they work
(it's easy to leave these ungrounded, and thus they won't work)

If all work, button it up, rock on

If they're single coils, they are the round metal pieces.

If you have something else, tapping on the top of the pickup should do.
