Hi,

I'm new to Fender guitars and have just bought a new Custom Deluxe in sonic blue with rosewood. LOVE IT!

However the pop-in tremolo arm sounds awful when it is being rotated...sounds like a metal on metal scratching sound. Why is this?

The arm stays put where I place it, which is how I like it when playing, but the moment I start to rotate the bar into a playing position for some trem it makes this awful sound. Does it need some lubrication somewhere or an adjustment?

Help!

Thanks
Mojoz

If the scratching occurs while the guitar is plugged in and is coming out of the speaker, then the bar itself just needs some lubrication; however, if it is audible with out the amp, then there is probably a bigger problem here

Its a mechanical noise, not electronic / coming through the speakers.

This means either the bar is too big for the block or visa versa ...try putting a lubeicant on the tremolo bars threading and see if this helps

Solved.... the "push-in" tremolo arm felt like it had two stops, the first stop left the arm way too loose and "rattley", the second held the arm with the exact tension I was after but had this awful noise associated with it whenever I rotated the arm.

So I returned the arm to the first stop position and adjusted the hex screw on the back of the block to add tension and now all is well! Phew.

So much for custom shop attention to detail....not only was this an issue but the tremolo maintenance kit included two hex keys, both of which don't fit any of the hex screws on the trem. Not impressed... at least the guitar plays and sounds great but after years of being used to Musicman and PRS quality control I would have expected the same from Fender's Custom Shop.

Anyway, all's good now!
