Hi guys,

So here we go, first things first, here is my guitar (masterbuilt by John Cruz):

Image

It's been with me for 9 months now, and as far as I can remember, I have had tuning problems with it.
As you can see, there isn't even a whammy bar on it. I'm talking about tuning problems occuring from bends and maybe hard strumming.
It's mainly on the G, B and high E strings but it's most likely because I bend them the most. They can go almost almost a half step down after some hard bending.

And as you can imagine, it's a total pain...

Now I know for a fact there are people on this board that know A LOT about Fender guitars.

So, what would be the first thing you'd think of if it happened to you?
Not enough stretching when the strings are new?
Tuners need some oil?

I will probably end up going to see a luthier regarding this issue, but I thought I would ask here first.

Thanks in advance, regards,

David

I set my own guitars up so when this happens to me this is what I do...

1: try to string your strings the "locking" way (see video)

2: make sure your nut is lubricated

3: make sure tremolo spring tension = string tension

After this the ordinary adjustments such as action, truss rod adjustment, and itonation. Since your strat is a custom shop it should be good but check out the string winding technique first.

I have the same issues and have done the above suggestions to my 2001 56 NOS.
This is an inherent factor in the vintage reissues, Fender has replicated everything including the small glitches that are part and parcel of instruments from that era.
One major factor I've found is that string gauge is critical. Since I set up with as low an action as possible, I had to go back up from a 9.0 to a 9.5 set and switched from fender Super bullets to DR strings, I may go up to 10's in the future but so far so good as is.

Quick update:

I received my Big Bends Nut Sauce a few days ago.

A miracle.

It has completely fixed the problem, unbelievable.
It's so simple and still, a lot of people (including me a few days ago) don't know about it...

Thanks a lot guys :D

I have to say that guitar of yours is.....ONE SEXY BEAST!!!

I'm not particularly "drawn" to relics....I don't dislike them or anything...but my usual preference is non-relic when possible...BUT...there is something very appealing in the look of your guitar.....????....I can't put my finger on it, but something about that guitar screams..."HEY YOU!!! Come pick me up!!! Let's PLAY!

It's great you got your situation resolved....ENJOY!

You just perfectly described the way I feel about it.

I purposely placed my guitar stand right where I can see it from my bed so I can just look at the guitar and sometimes I can't even resist playing it unplugged in bed before sleeping.

I don't know what's so special about it, all masterbuilt guitars are super sexy and amazing but this one... it's one special piece of wood.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it (she does too)

And just for fun:

It does... John really knows how to make guitars you will remember (and hopefully keep) your entire life :)
