I love the design of Hendrix's Monterey Pop strat, (http://bit.ly/NDA3s) so I'm planning on buying a pre-painted body on eBay. Since my budget is pretty low and I'm mainly going for looks, I was planning on getting a low end guitar and swapping out the body for the Monterey Pop one. My knowledge is extremely limited when it comes to building guitars, so bear with me...

The seller on eBay said the body will fit any 2-3/16" neck. That's the only technical spec he gives about the body. My question is, what guitar can I buy so I can just swap out the body? If I get a strat or a squier will the pickups, pickguard, ect. fit? Thanks

Go to www.pamelina.com first. You may come up with a better run for your money having her do that art on, let's say, a white MIM Standard, and not be obliged to parts out a guitar.

Read carefully her notes on the original Monterey art project, because I don't know, at this time, what the seller on eBay is offering you and representing as fact.

Also go to www.edroman.com. Go into Guitars and scroll down to 'Fabulous Fakes.' Ed's operation does faithful repros which are pricier, and what you are looking at may have, in fact, come out of his factory. Don't know what your budget looks like but this may also be a less complicated approach to what you are after.

Keep us posted on what your final project looks like.

Doc
