I was interested in one of these...but does anyone know why they put CS Fat 50s in them? Are the Fat 50s close to the original 64 specs or was it just because Fender CS felt like putting them in? Also are all 1964 CS included with Fat 50s or just the most recent ltd editions?

Thanks

I just ask this because IMO when buying a certain year reissue it is kind of a turn-off to have Texas Specials or other CS off the shelf pickups that do not necessarily provide the sound of the period the guitar is modeled after.

If you are going to spend a good amount of money on a guitar in order to get the vintage sound and vibe of a certain era (instead of paying 10K+ for a true vintage) I would think one of the main things to keep in tact is the major producer of the sound of that year.

I can understand if it is a masterbuilt since most of the time masterbuilds incorporate what the builder thinks will sound great. They are not necessarily reissues, but as the name suggests, unique guitars built by a masterbuilder. (is the 64 with Fat 50s a materbuilt?)

Just kind of throwing out random thoughts to supplement my questions above. Don't get me wrong I like the modern updates of larger fret wire, 5 way selectors, etc to the reissues; but think if someone is looking to get a 1964 reissue strat that it is only going to provide the feel of the vintage one and not the sound if the pickups are not true spec to the year.

They were offered like that as a LTD. You can order a Time Machine vintage correct version if you like. I believe the LTD's are all sold.

I've seen a couple of '64 Strat replicas on various Japanese guitar-related Websites. These Custom Shop recreations of the original 1964 Strat like this 2006 masterbuilt relic in the beautiful Gold Sparkle finish (not mine, of course) were hand-crafted by Greg Fessler.

well, I can account for 1 from the Candy Tangerine run, and one from the LPB run. I would think they are all sold, as they are AMAZING guitar. you guys really out-did yourselves with that one, Mike.

Not sure if this guitar can be ordered with a 22-fret "maple-cap" neck, Dunlop 6000 super-sized frets, abalone dots, an HSS setup (two Fat 50s and a Duncan Trembucker) with S-1 switch and a deluxe 2-point locking bridge (updated with the new copper-infused steel block) with LSR Roller Nut and Fender/Ping locking machine heads.

I saw the deluxe locking bridge discontinued since 2007, but the Custom Shop can install the locking tremolo option as an option if a customer requests to have that feature on his guitar.

G'day !
I just purchased a Lake Placid Blue 64 relic ltd. edition. Some grain showing suggests that this might have an ash body -could this be correct ?

Very nice guitar. Cost $4000AUS. Also have a 56 N.O.S Ocean Turquoise
I LOVE FENDER !
Cheers
