Hi guys!

I got a Stratocaster from the Custom Shop. It was a second hand deal and came with a certificate.

The certificate is dated september 1991 and says model Custom Strat.

Serial is V053498

Neck is in flamed maple and it has gold lace sensors. Mechanics gold colored. Body red.

I've tried to find out more about this guitar, but if i google it, I cant find any guitars named as in the certificate.

I guess my question is: am i the owner of a Stratocaster Custom Plus?

I hope somebody can help...

Thx

Ok... here's a pic. Sorry 'bout the bad quality, but my iPhone camera sucks... :(

Any details I should take picture of?

Thx

My comuter will not allow me to see the photos, but I owned an '87 Strat Plus. So I figure I can take a stab at this.

To best of my memory the Strat Plus specs were as follows:
3 Gold Lace Sensors
Hip Shot Tremsetter (in the back of the guitar where the springs are located)
Locking Tuning keys
A Roller nut (Wilkinson or later models LRS)
TBX Tone control

To learn more about Fender serial numbers check out the "Support" Section under "Product dating" at the top of the web page.

I hope this helps.

Paris

NICE!

Beautiful looking neck on that one. What kind of CS logo on the back of the headstock? Is it Masterbuilt? Does it have a Clapton Midboost?

It looks A LOT like some of the fancied up Custom Strat Clapton-esque (one-off) strats that J. Black was doing then.

Looks like its NOT a Custom Plus

Has no Hip Shot Tremsetter
No Locking Tuning keys
No Roller Nut
TBX? Not sure...

Thx Paris :)

zPECTREz!:
Yupp... I love the neck. That was what caught my attention in the first place...

The back of the headstock logo (oval with a headstock in the middle) says Custom Shop, Fender USA. Guess that means its not Masterbuild?

And it has no Clapton Mid Boost...

Hmmm... Did Fender make a strat that simply was called Stratocaster Custom?

Anyway... Thx guys

Hmmm

Not seen a cert like that before (obviously I bow to the greater knowledge of others here so I'm not just gonna say "it's fake"!) but I do have one from 1995 with John Page's sig on & his sig at least is nothing like that :? (and the Cert is completely different). Mine came direct from the CS as I ordered it so I know it's genuine.

Ouch!!!

That's a big surprise for me. The guitar was bought at Rose Morris on Denmark Street, London... should be a serious dealer.

I bought it in 2004, so its a bit late to bring it back... :(

Hope somebody can tell its a CS guitar...

When I look up the serial, it comes up with "made at the Corona plant" as stated in the cert...

Hmmm...I don't know, doesn't look all that bad...maybe John was just in a rush that day when he signed it...Here's a pic of mine that's a little closer to your '91 COA...This is from my '92 J.W. Black Strat.

Fingers crossed it's all fine. I didn't want to cause alarm based on the cert itself (hence my bracketed disclaimer as I know they change often), I just thought the sig looked a little bit too 'different'.

Let's see what Mike has to say.

Thx to LeftyElliot and zSPECTREz

Looks like there are different "generations" of the certs...

So, please.... somebody tell me John Page hurt his thumb while making CS Fenders in September 1991... and that it healed ok but had a bit problems signing certs for a few days...
