I believe the Daphne Blue EC came as Clapton was probably inspired by the Daphne Blue Giffin copy he played in the early-to-mid-1980s and wanted kinda something different apart his "traditional" colour tastes.

The Daphne Blue Giffin was used for slide playing. Not sure if Eric would play his actual Daphne Blue signature model with a bottle neck. Apparently he's satisfied much enough with a Lace-equipped Blackie for the slide-guitar stuff (Motherless Children, Travellin' Riverside Blues, If I Had Possession, Tulsa Time).

Seems he retired that guitar to slide once the guitars with the VN's were adopted. IMHO the Lace's have a 'darker & throatier tone' which I have always preferred, and likely lend themselves to slide more, though I recall that the usual corporate 'yadayada' at the time of release of both the Gold Laces and Bill Lawrences's SCN's was that they each, in their own right and time, yielded a vintage Strat tone. What I traditionally refer to in these pages as 'best thing since sliced bread' syndrome, at work again. There's been much written in these pages with respect to the search for tone, in particular, the interest in aftermarket pickup manufacturer's whose products seem to satisfy the ears and minds of the individual tone questers. There's no accounting for tastes in the pursuit of those elusive sounds and I would expect that everyone of us hears Clapton indivdually, but are all equally moved. The central question always being..."Oh maaan......how does he do it" :!: :?:

Enjoy your guitars. My '89 Pewter remains the main axe and, as stratman steve and I seem to concur as one of the one's to own, and among the grandfathers of them all. 8)

Doc
