I'm 100% with ZZDoc on this one....When I think of "THAT" name...only ONE very specific guitar comes to mind....there is no other.

I cannot say I am keen on the 'When your ready' advertising slogan. It is almost on a par with the McDonald's; 'I'm lovin' it'.

Adding these throwaway phrases to caps and T-shirts for trade fairs is one thing but inscribing them for posterity on more cherished items; guitars and cases seems to be going a step too far.

It ain't rock n roll and I don't like it.

I asked for the new logo to be put on the guitars and certs, and we didn't like the way it looked, so we have changed it back. My fault. Now, a blip in history.

20 or 30 years from now, I'll have two of the "When You're Ready"s that everyone will be looking for.

In that case you can not print "BLACKIE" on any guitar, since the original does not have the lettering.

For what it's worth; EC did not seem to mind, his personal late nineties guitars had the signature and "BLACKIE" on the frontside on the headstock.

Or like the Romans put it: "BREAD AND BLACKIES" What more could a guitarist ask for...

It's a keeper for the sands of time.

Very true. However...I've not seen either his signature or the moniker on his personal guitars since...???...and highly doubt I will again

Yeah, you're right zSPECTREz. As a matter of fact my previous remark was not quite accurate; he hasn't had the signature on since the late nineties, the early to late nineties guitars had the sigs and BLACKIE decals on them.

 Glad you like

Actually my 1995 CS masterbuilt Black EC lefty has the Blackie logo on it - they won't do that these days!

If you review the narrative in the '04 Christies Catalog you'll come to the section where they briefly discussed minor changes they had made to his stage guitars including not having the signature on the headstock. I'm writing from the office presently so I can't reference the page, but I have done so on other threads in the past.

While you're not liking it, focus on the contour of the neck where it merges into the headstock. You're not going to find THAT kind of taper on Fender's generic soft-V....only on the Clapton.

You're sure? I gather that if you order a Materbuilt and specify that you would like the signature with the "Blackie" decal on the front of the headstock (and then in perfect alignment with the Stratocaster logo, like EC's own and unlike the ones from the production line....), why would Fender decline such a simple request? I would be disappointed if they did so. Maybe ME can shine a light on the matter...
