I have a lovely John Cruz masterbuilt 1955 sunburst Strat, relic finish. I chipped the nitro laquer at a gig at the weekend, not a big mark, about half a centimetre on the front edge nr the strap button.

I know it might seem ironic, seeing as its relic'd, but should I have it repaired back to the way Mr Cruz intended? Or should I regard the mark as a battle-scar that just adds to the character? My worry is that the chip is not consistent with the rest of the 'wear' on the guitar. Nuts I know.

No jokes about 'yeah and why not get all the other marks and the fretboard wear sorted while you're at it'!

If yes, is it a DIY repair, or should I get someone to do it?

Thx

Robert.

Repair an additional relicing to a reliced guitar ?
Why ?
The relicing template of the Masterbuilders is mostly in their day's mood

I'm genuinely confused. You deliberately go out and buy an artificially and extensively blemished guitar but the first time it gets a natural blemish, you want it removed as it somehow doesn't conform? This is a new one on me!

Leave it.....You just took the 1st step in making that guitar YOUR OWN :D

Which I'm quite certain is EXACTLY what Mr. Cruz "Intended"

Enjoy it....Love it....Play it....Free from worry. Strats are made for exactly these things.

Good points, thank you. I think it adds to the character, and appreciate you folks' views.

I'm confused myself (maybe too much time owning dipped-in-glass PRS!).

My reservation is that the body is somewhere between closet classic and relic (i.e. cared for, but well-used looking, no missing paint) rather than 'dammit I just banged it on the floor trying to open the case while holding the guitar...' but I guess that's just what its all about!
