This Strat is amazing looking! And I have to say that you're words about this Strat versus your Custom LP's is quite the testament to Fender craftsmanship. Good show!

Completely agree!

When I knew I needed to send my CS Strat back I realized that I needed to "settle" for my LP Custom while it is gone. I honestly felt like I was just getting by with it and was a bit disappointed because of it. Then I thought about what I was settling on, I realized there are worse things.

Every CS owner says that their guitar is the best and for some reason I don't feel the need to disagree with them. I know they are probably that good!

Anyway, as usual, the white is killer! I'm also a big fan of those saddles.

Pretty much the same day I started to shop for a CS strat. Not as easy as you would think here in Germany.
I found this one in a small shop in the U.K. and had it shipped to me.

Strange thing is that I cannot find a lot of discussion about this model anywhere online. Not many people seem to have these although I would have thought a 20th Anniversary guitar would be a big thing for the Customshop.

I spoke to someone at the Music Zoo prior to pulling the trigger on this one and he assured me it was a good guitar....... OH Boy, how right was he??

I love it! The 69 pickups have since become my favorite clean tone.

Here are some pics.

Have you had the back off, is it blocked?

To answer your questions:

Yes, I´ve had the back off when I took these pics. The strat arrived with the trem about 1/8th off the top of the guitar (factory setting) As I do not use a trem and play double stops and one string bends I don´t like the other strings to go out of tune whith the floating trem setup so I lowered the trem and added the other two trem springs. WIth 5 springs in there and the tremclaw screwed in a bit nothing moves with my playing style and all strings stay in tune even if I do big bends.
The Cover is back on again though.

I do like the reverbish kinda ring these trem springs make so I didn´t block the trem with a piece of wood. If nothing moves with the 5 springs that is stable enough for me.

I didn´t want to start a Fender CS /Gibson CS flame war here by writing my comment in the first post. Just wanted to express that I like this strat even a little more that my 59 Reissue Les Pauls. And I love them. But sorry - the fretwork is better on this strat - although my Gibsons are factory plek´ed.

What I don´t get about theses 20th Anniversary Masterbuilts is the srap pins.
On some of them you see that Fender used Schaller straplock buttons from the factory and on some you have the typical strap pins. Is that something the builder decided and some of the builders like to equip the guitars with straplocks from the beginning?

I saw that on quite a few of these that were built by Greg Fessler. Mine is from Todd Krause and it came with the normal aged pins.

Almost forgot:

Mr Krause ( who will probably never see this): I don´t know how much work you actually did on my instrument but thank you very much for this fine piece. Especially the aging is excellent - not the usual small aerosol crackling in the nitro but nice long checking lines running into the various dings you put in the guitar. Excellent!

So I have a custom Shop Clapton Strat and feel exactly the same as you about it, until I accidentally bought a master built (Tod Kraus) strat. Essentially a Master built Clapton apart from the colour. It is just another huge leap in 'playability' and I love it.

:D

Went to the Custom Shop Road Show last night (Calif Vintage Guitars, Sherman Oaks, CA)

Bought a Master Built 70s Strat Black on Black. Built by Mark Kendrick. Set up by Dennis Galuszka! Had Todd Krause, Dennis, John Cruz and Mike Eldred sign the back of my COA.

The Strat was basically modeled after the 1970 since it had the 4 bolt neck and had a bit of modernization to it because it came with the 5 way switch (and a reverse middle wound to cancel the hum) and was a relic

It was also great to meet John Cruz because he Master Built my 60s Shell Pink, Rosewood Strat (ash body, gold hardware, very very light, also has the 5 way switch but middle is not reverse wound) and was NOS.

Also had a very nice conversation with Mike Eldred.

Meeting these guys was kind of like meeting one of my favorite musicians. I was like a kid and a bit in awe because I love Fender Guitars so much.

What's great about the Fender Custom Shop is how they personalize and let you know who the builders are. At Gibson no one knows any of the builders names. Fender has turned these guys and past Custom Shop builders into Superstars of the Musical Instrument Guitar world.

Also got a nice T-Shirt and Work Shirt.

So 2 Master Builts now in my collection.

Yeah, this is me as well. I'm seriously tempted by the 60's "Telemaster" (as shown in another thread), but my wife would kill me if I bought it!

Here's mine - just bought 2 weeks ago: 2006 built by Dennis Galuzska. One of 42 based on a Seminole red 1964 strat owned by GC in california. Brazilian Rosewood neck, bone nut, etc...Pics not too good but I plan to post better ones as soon as I can. As far as price goes I paid $3,300.00 for it, which compared to new relic custom shop guitars in my area (upstate NY) seems like a better buy. Anyway, I'd like to find more info on this particular build, if anyone out there has more info on it I would appreciate it. I've also heard that there was an ad for it in Vintage Guitar magazine, anyone know where I can find back issues ?

Thanks
